As someone who relied primarily on newspapers and magazines for news growing up, I didn't have to deal with digitally altered images. Now that everything has transpired online, I can see how double-checking a picture's authenticity could be helpful.

This lesson outlines that images published by nationally recognized news stations were photoshopped. When you are unsure if the photo or information you are viewing is legitimate, it can help to do a reverse search on the topic. This makes finding the original source of your content an essential detail in your analysis. One way to do this is to see if your data has any cited links or authors. Another way to find the original author is to do a direct internet search for it. Sometimes the original source can’t be found, but it only takes seconds to scan the internet. With significant media brands posting photoshopped images, it is essential to check these sites' legitimacy to make sure you are receiving the most up-to-date information.

Jordan, this is a very interesting technique I have never used. Whenever I was in college using wikipedia for just about anything was frowned upon due to the fact just about anyone can edit something on there. So it is very interesting to see now it is actually usable as there is a lot of information on wikipedia. Using this Just add wikipedia technique would be super helpful including whenever you write a paper that requires evidence from a reliable source. This could also be helpful when anyone wants to fact check a quote from a person. Thank you for informing me on this technique that anyone could use!

During these times of information being biased or coming from several different sources using a technique like “just adding wikipedia” can really allow us as students and fact checkers to quickly check the reliability of sources and also other information about the source. So overall this was a great lesson to look over and a technique i plan on using in the future whenever I have to write a paper for any class.

Brett,
I appreciate your advising what’s involved with fact-checking news articles. Your detailed explanation helped me to more fully understand all that is involved in bringing forth truth from a reliable source. Before the Internet and the depth of access it provides, the average citizen mostly believed what network news journalists reported as fact checking would have been much to cumbersome of a process for most. Sadly, however, this still seems to be the case with so many not getting past headlines to read. The fact there are professional fact checkers today helps tow the line with accountability - not a bad thing. I often wonder about how often the American public were duped into believing falsities in the past. Newspapers and magazines were the basic news-gathering resources for us pre-Internet. We have come a long way! Thank you for sharing!

Dear mom

It has come to my attention that there are misleading articles on the internet. Misleading articles have been going on for some time, for example look at this article it is trying to make you believe it is true.articles with misleading information. This makes it difficult for young teens to understand because they don't know how to effectively fact check an article. This article is saying the President went into the hospital in september. I was doing some research and it looks like it is false information. I'll also be showing u a powerpoint to explain this more. Take a look at this article.

This story is going after a Trump supporters. Trying to make them think maybe he is not in good health and should not run again. He has medical problems and is too old.

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/09/new-report-deepens-mystery-around-trumps-sudden-and-suspicious-visit-to-walter-reed-hospital/

If you want to check out a story if it is true on the internet you can fact check it. One way is to look up the source or company making the claim or writing the article in Wikipedia.

If you read below you will see that it says this source writes against the GOP, which is the Republican party who President Trump represents.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raw_Story

This shows how publishers or even websites make false headlines to make people look at their articles .For example how the first article is explaining how trump is in the hospital but after checking the source with wikipedia it shows they are biased towards the democrats and how they are normally against the republican party. “ If you're looking for alleged GOP malfeasance, the folks at rawstory.com are frequently scooping the mainstream media.”Due to this information don't believe everything you see on the media. Especially now due to these crazy times it's worth the fact checking articles especially the ones you see on the internet.

Now, in the modern day, we are constantly flooded with information with news agencies putting information out on a minute by minute basis instead of the previous weekly release. As technology evolved our need to be more adapt at learning its flaws have also evolved.
