Haehwan, Tony, Sarah

16.get energy savvy

School ask students to think about some easy ways to save energy.

Their idea will promote energy conservation.

This may work if students remember to do this everyday. My suggestion is, make students do this as a homework.

17. Encourage walking or biking to school

School encourages students to choose a day and find a green way to go to school.

This will improve students’ travel in green ways.

Maybe to designate a day like this every week or every month, so can make this method more effective.

18.Start composting

Eliminate the food waste by adding compost bin,and they can transport the food waste to the outdoors bin.

They may put the compost to the garden to promoting plant’s growing.

It is a good way to recycle the food waste, and to make it useful.

‘19:plant a rain garden’ in my opinion,it’s not that useful as it don’t really have much impact on the environment and the pollution

‘20:install rain barrels’ like the first one,it only would catch a bit of rainwater that don’t really impact on the environment

‘21:create a sustainable front yard’,compare to the 20 ,this one is more useful because it’s building a “natural” garden than using a lot of money and effort to build a normal one which means it is sustainable

‘22: use supplies year after year’ this one is not really making the school more sustainable but it kind of reducing waste and donate what we don’t really need, it’s making the whole society more so sustainable

23.Reuse supplies.

Either save them for the next school year or donate them.

This is effective because they could reduce waste and let people know about sustainability.

I agree with this idea because this would reduce the amount of money spent and might encourage other schools to do this action because it is quite easy to do.

24.Go on a field trip to a recycling center or landfill.

Recycling center trip shows how their efforts pay off.

This is effective because this encourages people to not make food waste and reduce waste.

I agree with this idea because this would make students know that they are taking part and has a big impact on the environment.

25.Make Eco-friendly Supplies.

From recycled dry-erase markers to construction paper, you can make a lot of eco friendly supplies.

This is effective because this could make the world a bit cleaner by not really using plastic as the main substance.

I agree with this idea because this would make supplies that are not plastic, and not landfilled. This has a big impact on the environment because this would lessen landfills and garbages that end up in the ocean.

Wash with stainless steel cutlery before use. Reduce the use of disposable chopsticks, to protect the trees. I also agree this point. In our school also use stainless steel cutlery, because disposable chopsticks are expensive and not environmentally friendly.

14. try for a zero waste day or week just to test the water to make it a fun challenge with a little reward, kids will totally get on board

My opinion:| think it is a good challenge for kids to try for a zero waste day or week, because they can have good habits

15.Grow garden. There is an area to let students grow their own food. It’s can let students have fun and also very environmentally friendly. I’m also agree with it. Sometimes students are feel stressed, maybe they can sit there enjoy the scenery or to grow sth in the garden. When the food grow up we can use it in canteen.

Sofia&Vicent

6.Teach and reinforce trash sorting

Whether it’s sorting organic and non-organic material in the cafeteria or sorting paper, plastic, and more, teach and reinforce good habits from the classroom to the hallways and outdoors.

Our ideas:

·Sorting different kinds of waste

·This minimizes waste, separates recyclables and non-recyclables, and it also reduces the cost of buying new supplies.

·Bringing recyclable materials home and use it for class projects.

7.Schedule a trash pickup day

Get outside to see how much trash is on the ground and use trash bags and gloves to pick it up. This makes students more aware of just how much litter ends up on school grounds. Make it a regular event and see if you can reduce the amount of trash picked up each time.

Our ideas:

·Let students clean up by themselves and raise their awareness.

·School green projects need a lot of students participation, this can make them appreciate the difficulties of school staff and improve student’s environmental awareness.

·Setting up environmental protection classes to teach students about the pollution of waste to the environment, this can be more effective in reducing unnecessary daily waste.

8.Add indoor plants

Studies show that indoor plants naturally purify the air and provide health benefits like fewer cold symptoms and improved behavior. Start with easy-to-grow plants like a spider plant, snake plant, jade, English ivy, or golden pothos. Get kids involved in the plant care and nurture your mini gardeners.

Our ideas:

·Let the students be part of the daily care of the school plants and let them understand the importance of plants to the environment.

·This makes it easier for students to participate in the school's green project, growing plants themselves can help students understand the importance of plants to the environment.

·Set up a school farm for students to grow food. The vegetables can be used for the school cafeteria, this reduces school’s daily cost.

9.Rally for solar panels

Yes, this is a pricey way to become a green school, but it’s one that pays off. According to EnergySage, solar is the cheapest energy source and saves a ton of money. Plus schools typically have flat roofs, which are a natural fit for solar panels. Start by doing your research, and then engage the community!

Our ideas:

·Use solar panels instead of school power.

·This way of saving energy is very expensive but very useful, using solar energy for future on can save a lot of power costs for school.

·Turn off the power and lights when leaving the classroom or when finished using equipments, this can be a great way to save power costs of the school.

10.Get dirty and do a waste audit

Hand out some rubber gloves and let students dig in! Dump trash cans onto a tarp to see just how many recyclables were doomed for the landfill. Tally up all of the misplaced items and communicate the total to the entire school.

Our ideas:

·Let students work themselves to find misclassified waste.

·This can save school’s staff resources and deepen student’s mind of different kinds of garbage. Recyclable waste should be used again for other purposes instead of landfill.

·Put different trash bins in the school, recyclable paper waste should be placed in classrooms to be used as materials for classes.
