I chose The Internet, a band that has a lot of slow, more r&b types of songs. At first glance, I just thought the album cover was cool. The bright orange background, baggy clothes, and the many different facial expressions. I had seen it as just a good shot for the album but after speaking with Dr. Washington, he helped me come to the conclusion that after so many years of black people having to conform to other people's standards, it's cool that they'd each display any emotion they wanted during the shot of the photo. They also had other things like a "got hos?" hat, sunglasses, and earbuds on in the photo. Their goal of the film was to show how America looks from their point of view. In their 1972 section of the film we get to see more of Angela Davis. While incarcerated, she was interviewed by Tony Brown where she is asked about her thoughts of the Black Panthers Violence. She said, "because of the way this society is organized, because of the violence that exists on the surface everywhere, you have to expect that there are going to be such explosions. You have to expect things like that as reactions." I feel like her answer would've been so obvious, that of course with an up-bringing from violence, it would only be counteracted with the same energy. But the answer was not obvious and for reasons such as people only thinking of why someone would be violent instead of how violence was inflicted on black people in the first place. I remember the film touching up on the difficulties she faced as a black dancer especially in the world of ballet. Ballet is one of the most mind and body demanding things you can do. As a ballerina, there are certain stereotypes that people push like being white, coming from money, and having the prettiest pink pointe shoes. What I found so enduring about Keivonn was that the staff on the Last of Us had learned and picked up a bit of ASL for him and let him use ASL while on the show.
