Also, I plan on becoming a middle school math teacher, and I have been concerned with how to explain to students the importance of technology in mathematics. It is hard enough getting some students to understand the importance of mathematics in general, so to add in technology and have them understand why technology and mathematics go hand in hand can be a hard task. It is important to know if you students have internet access and you could anonymously do that at the beginning of the school year. While this does not answer all of the questions you posed, I do believe I can provide a bit of insight on technology use in mathematics. I understand your frustration here. I too am majoring in Middle Level Mathematics, and this is a valid concern. What you may do is start small. Whether it be allowing students to play elementary level math games on a computer to get used to using technology in the classroom. Think of it like building a house. I feel like to keep them from feeling left out you just need to make sure you treat them like all the other students. Making them feel different or changing things just for them will make them stand out more and that what kids want to stay clear of.
