The best thing about it is that it is entirely hands on for the students. As I create my lessons, I'm looking to incorporating technology as I continue to develop lessons. For it. Not sure what I will do yet.

Don't worry so much about the technology piece. As you focus on the instructional goals and how you will assess your students' understanding, the possible use of technology to enhance it may become clear.

Andrea Torchetti

A lesson I am preparing in the library focuses on research surrounding social issues and how they affect individuals. Some examples of these issues include poverty, intolerance, and family dynamics. The use of technology could help improve this lesson by providing students with a different lens with which to analyze these issues. Although I am not sure which specific technology item I will be using, my goal is to have it be something that allows the students to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of the specific issue each one of them chooses.

The lesson sounds great! I'm wondering if you could even do a live video conference with an author or speaker who had to overcome either poverty and/or racial prejudices in their life? There are so many possibilities with Skype, Zoom, Hangouts, etc. Maybe check out some museums - Native Americans with alcoholism, African American Museum in Washington D.C. might give you some ideas if you want to go that direction or you could stay local and find an outreach center?

Many of the students in this class do not speak a word of English. Last year, they created "All About Me" paperback books. They included text and pictures. The students presented their books. This year, we are going to try Book Creator as an alternative. The students will create ebooks instead. They are going to be able to include text and actual photos as well as embedding an about the author video. Using Book Creator will take the project up a notch allowing the students to reach a bigger audience and practice their speaking as well.
