This song talks about having fun during the summer time. What I quickly noticed about not just this song but other songs from this time frame is that they were focused on positive experiences, specifically with friends and loved ones.

1910s: I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier - Peerless Quartet

As you probably can see in the title, this song talks about a man's desire to see his son grow and bring him joy, rather than see him fighting as a soldier in the army. WW1 started a year prior. So that is probably the motivation to writing the song.

The full song is about 18 minutes long, and there aren't any lyrics. Yet I still really enjoyed it because of how soothing it is. The piano leads the tune, and thev other instruments compliment it well.

This is the first love song on my list. I'm starting to see a transition from classical music to music made for the audience. Jimmie Davis' "You Are My Sunshine" is one of the most popular songs from the 40s ever.

Reflection

Through this process, I've picked up and learn a lot of new things about music and it's evolution through the present day. Music originally about life and was more physically relate able. As time progressed, music become more and more about showboating and the life of being rich famous, specifically in the 2000s to present day. Music on romance became very popular steadily through time, but even that has evolved. Originally, musics that involved romance related to falling in love and intimacy, but later shifted into heartbreak and pain. But although there's been many changes in popular genres and etc. one thing remains true. Music is about expressing yourself, and is meant to connect with it's intended audience. Regardless of race, gender, or social issues, music brings us all together. Different songs tell different stories, but different genres don't mean songs don't have messages. If you sing or rap about being sad, the message still gets to the listener. You can even create a sad beat, and people will still understand the tone and message. Music holds that much power.
