When the shutter speed changes to a faster speed, it is able to capture motion easier. When the shutter speed is set slow the images appear blurry. For example, when the shutter speed was set to 1/3rd of a second, the people in the image appeared "ghostly", but when the shutter speed was set to 1/800th of a second, the people in the image were clear even as they were jumping. 

You would want to use shutter speed as a priority if you are trying to capture motion. Some situations you would use this are when someone is running or birds are flying.
