Emotions and Kidney Donation

I've always had moments where I have been overcome with certain emotions, it's fairly common. Usually I can't stop laughing or having a dumb grin on my face because that's just the way I've always been. To be completely honest I laugh out loud when I'm by myself all the time and even more when I'm with my friends. Being a negative person has never really been who I am.
Groups moods definitely affect me. I generally don't like when I'm with a group of people who are mad or there's tension in the room. It just creates an awkwardness in the room. I usually try to lighten the mood in situations like that because not only does it clear some tension in the room, it makes everyone feel a little better, less tense, and more focused on positive conversation or activities.
I think it would be very hard for me to donate a kidney to a complete stranger. It's not that I'm selfish, it would just be very hard to make that big of a decision. However, if it was someone close to me I think I would be much more likely to do so. If I knew my donation would spur other donations I would more than likely do it because it could create an avalanche of good deeds or spark someone else to go above and beyond just one donation or act of kindness.

This week what made me curious was how many different ways it is possible to have a good cover letter/resume. There were many more little things to pay attention to than I remember since I last made either of those documents. I find it very interesting that some of those smallest parts of the cover letter can really affect your chances of getting a job.
This week I was satisfied in knowing that I can make a quality cover letter/resume document even if I don't have a plethora to put on it. I don't think I am lacking heavily, but there are definitely people with a more full resume than me.
I don't truly feel I contributed to class heavily this week mainly because it was a lot of listening to the presenters. Some weeks I think it is okay to be more passive and just listen instead of always talking, to some extent at least it is okay to be passive some weeks.

Influencer and Workplace Wellness

The quote goes hand in hand with Influencer, the key to influence is to touch those hearts and minds of the people to get them to change their behavior. Each story in the Influencer readings this week used a different form of mass influence to help the population. For example the requirement of using a contraceptive in Thailand to reduce the risk/spread of HIV. The doctor was able to change the frame of thinking from, "The plague is coming, try not to catch it" to "if we use this prescribed method, we can save ourselves."
My vision for Wellness is to help equip people with the tools that they need on a daily basis to thrive. Wellness concepts can easily be relayed and can be very powerful when taught correctly. This is not a science that is as complicated as mathematics or biochemistry this is a science for people to help people. I think a very simple Wellness innovation that could be created at businesses is a Wellness space. During lunch hours or after work have a reserved space with Wellness based questions each day/week that people can post anonymously on a board or discuss with others in the room. This could be an easy way to not only get employees to interact more with each other, it gives them a chance to learn more about each other than just what they discuss at work. This will create a more cohesive and enjoyable work environement.

Sources of Influence

One of the most important sources of influence I can use for my group is the 'Make the Undesirable Desirable" source. My groups focus is on nutrition and proper nutrition is viewed as undesirable by many people in need of behavior change. Along with that I could enlist the Social Motivation because bringing in family members/friends as a support line too any behavior change will heavily increase the effectiveness/likelihood of success.
-Some information in the Putnam book that could assist me would be the use of the Stealth Approach because there is a specific example in that chapter that applies to nutrition that I will be presenting on with Tanner on 3/5. Along with the Stealth approach the Putnam book I could also utilize building a DaVinci team to integrate the variety of influences on eating habits because thus far in our group research we have found that sex, socioeconomic status, race, and even the sex of the person eating with you can affect nutrition habits. Those all have a variety of miniature influences in them to contribute to the whole subject of what influences our eating habits. The idea of integrating all sources of influence, not just the physical aspect of eating will be more effective in behavior change than covering a single side of the issue.

Genius Hour Reflection

Our Genius Hour groups would like to be Influencers because the population we are targeting (Food Deserts,Low SES Neighborhoods) have had the same reoccurring problems over the years in terms of accessibility to food, convenience to access the whole foods, etc.
Along with that we can add to an already existing system (EBT/Quest Cards) and improve them for future generations.
I think in terms of offering advice to another group a big thing to keep in mind is to search for all the sources of influence to the vital behavior they are trying to change. It's really easy to get too focused in on one source of influence and then get blinded to small other influences that could aid in the behavior changing efforts.

Creating Meaning

I think the way we could create meaning in our group would be to show these low SES citizens who may feel they have no way to help their situation that it can be improved using a system already available to them. We can create convenience and better opportunity for them to access healthy foods.
Something of meaning to them could be as easy as helping them dig out of the whole they are in being socioeconomically challenged, it can also be an opportunity to help provide good meals for their family. Every parent wants to be able to provide for their family, and this is one way we can help them do it affordably. I think that is a good why.

Whether the food is coming from local farmers, grocery stores, or other sources community member will feel more important and cared for in their communities knowing someone is going the extra lengths to provide them with quality foods to feed to their families.

Pulling It Together
A way that our group thought of to motivate others is maybe implement a frequent supermarket card. Offer discounts to the citizens using our mobile supermarket service. Quite possibly make a veggie/fruit/grain of the week and if they buy a certain amount reward them with coupons or free food products that week. Not only could this help people diversify their food intake from our supermarket, but it could also create a more positive light on our idea and keep people coming back.

1. Focus and Measure : One of the ways we discussed to measure our success is to look at how much of the EBT/Quest Card money is being spent at our mobile supermarket based on how many in that region/area have access to it and use EBT/Quest Card benefits.
2. Vital Behaviors: One vital behavior we are trying to change is the idea of convenience; people can already use food benefit cards on whole foods, but gas stations and other sources of processed foods are more easily accessed so that is why we chose to bring the whole foods to them.
3. 6 Sources of Influence: As far as personal motivation and personal ability goes this mobile supermarket idea is 100% on that pace, it gives EBT users the easily available/affordable quality foods they need. Along with motivation the supermarket hike was undesirable before, now it's easy to get the supermarket quality foods.
For social motivation and ability users of EBT may experience the same problems in their area (hard o access good food, good food is expensive, etc.) With this mobile supermarket they are all given the same opportunity to use their EBT right there in their neighborhood.
For structural we have completely changed their environment; now the foods are coming to them. Also, we can reward them for frequent purchases or featured foods of the week to motivate them to continue to come back.
