Miss Fisher just told her that she isn't allowed to let her dad teach her to read anymore. This quote inspires me because I can relate to Scout's feelings about reading. I take the ability to read for granted. It made me realize just how much reading means to me.

In the beginning of the text, Atticus explains to Scout you don' judge someone until you crawled in their skin and walked you walk around in it. Atticus explains how you don't judge someone based on their actions but on their intentions, and put your self in their shoes to help understand them best. Atticus can relate and understand people from different backgrounds such as poor farm families. This quote inspires me by taking into consideration about people's lives. It allows me to view others as not by their qualitative features, but as their personality

Earlier in the text, Atticus was explaining to the jury that the only way men are created equally is through the court system. Atticus also mentioned that a court is no better than each man sitting before him on that jury. Therefore, Atticus later explains that a court is only as sound as its jury, and a jury is only as sound as the men who make it up. In my opinion, Atticus is trying to explain to the men on that jury that they should not include their personal beliefs on race in this case. The evidence is stone cold and obvious. Tom Robinson did not 🤬 Mayella Ewell.

In the text on page 39 Atticus tries to explain to Scout about people and their point of views. And you cant just judge someone because of how they view things. He explained with this quote.." You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." This means you cant judge someone based on the way they act or how they view things. Atticus try to teach Scout that views don't matter when it comes to understanding a person. What matters is knowing their intentions and where their heart is.Can they look past race and standards,or are they not strong enough to look past a minor difference between individuals. This quote inspires me to remember we are the generation to make the difference. Today we are filled in a world full of war and hate ,but also filled with hope and compassion. We need to move forward and look past our differences. Or else we are going to end up like life in Maycomb.

Scout didn't want to continue going to school so that she can keep reading. So, Atticus gives her this advise for her to be able to get along with people better. This quote is inspiring to me because no one ever thinks about how other people feel in different situations because everyone is only worried about themselves. So, this advise about thinking about other people's feelings is very meaningful and useful in everyday life.

It was the way Mr.Gilmer acted to Tom Robinson disrespectfully, and how Scout pointed out that Tom Robinson was just a “Negro.” This quote inspires me because it makes me want to stand up for someone who is treated unfairly due to their differences: looks, characteristics, etc. If Dill can realize the unfairness of his community/world, I can at least stand up to the plate and be there to help.

Atticus says that one race shouldn't be taking the blame for another race. He also talks about how only some people can be trusted but not all. This inspires me because it shows how one corrupt example of a race does not mean that the whole entire race is corrupt. It gives me a whole different way to see the world for what it is. It also shows that no race is superior to the other and that everyone is equal. Just because someone has a different color, doesn't mean that another race should be superior, everyone is equal.

For this I choose the quote:“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is, instead of the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what (page #149)” Atticus is trying to explain this to Jem and Scout after Mrs. Dubose died she had a lot of courage because she was a Morphine addict. Her doctor put her on it, and she used it her whole life. The reason she died was because of the aftershock of her quitting the drug was overpowering. She didn’t want to be on the drug anymore and it showed courage the she wanted to quit, she was tired of the drug overtaking and overpowering her body. I feel like Atticus stated this to Jem and Scout because also during this time he was preparing for the case with Tom Robinson against the Ewell’s. I think he wanted Jem and Scout to know about courage because what he’s about to go through with this case and he wanted Scout and Jem to understand what they’ll have to show and express through these few months.

Try not to judge people based on what you see on the outside but also get to know them and see what they are really like because if you don't take a walk in their shoes then your just judging them based on what you think you know, not on what you actually know.

He gets this flower because he has been reading to Mrs.Dubose, who was sick. He has been reading to her because he had destroyed her camellia with Scout's new baton that he had bought with the money that he got for his birthday. He has to read to her for a month. Scout said he must be wrong because other people say that Atticus is doing wrong in defending Tom. Atticus said everybody can have their own opinion but first he needs to live with himself before living with others. He was trying to explain to the people that Bob Ewell was trying to frame Tom Robinson for something that Bob did to his daughter. This quote inspired me because Atticus knew from the start that Bob was the one that hurt his daughter. Atticus had so much evidence to back it up to prove that Tom didn’t do it. I also liked how he said the case was simple as black and white. He said that because it was obvious that Tom didn’t 🤬 Mayella. The only reason why Tom Robinson was guilty because he was black and white people did not like black people. The whole jury was filled with black people.

This quote shows both the flaws and pros of this time period. The flaw here is obviously the discrimination and segregation of the time period but i think a pro can be found too. I think the pro here is how all the people in the room all know that its wrong and I believe that a good thing, maybe no one is standing up for this but they do know and they all to stop it they just think there the only one. This speaks in a way to show how people should stand up for what their heart says is right.

Atticus was saying how this trial was decided before it even started or was even thought of because of history. He saw how the black man was ruled against constantly so because of that he was unsure if he would win this case. He was trying to tell the Jury that because Mayella did something that was so looked down upon and would maybe destroy the rest of who her father was that she was willing to even put Tom to death. When Tom was just willing to help her because she looked like she had no help. This quote speaks to me because it means just because of what's been happening regardless of evidence or obvious lies the black man will always be guilty.

S0 more than likely Judge Taylor knew that Tom Robinson was innocent but because the jury was all white, he knew the jury was gonna declare him as guilty. He also says this because he refused to close the courtroom even though there was children and women in the courtroom because the mothers chose what they want their children to hear and if they kept them in the courtroom then that's their fault.

The quote in which I choose had to do with the saying " Nobody is perfect and Nobody was ever born perfect". It was presented in Atticus speech as a reflection to the courtroom of the decision they would make after all of the evidence was presented to the jury. Atticus was discussing to the courtroom that even if Tom Robinson was considered guilty, would that mean everyone else of his skin color was guilty? Was every person of his gender guilty? Human beings as well? This speech should be use in the outside world as well with our world we need to stop racial discrimination because with it interfering to a person's daily life. If you are from a different skin color it doesn't make you different than the others because nobody is perfect and no will ever be. Accept yourself.

My thoughts on this is Atticus wasn't just speak to the jury but everyone, because at this moment he is saying the portrait of how racism is very high and people should be judged by the color of their skin. “The truth applies with the human race not just to no particular race of men” Their customs were preserved and the way people thought was still the same too. “ There is not a person in this courtroom who has never told a lie, who has never done an immortal thing, and there is not man living who has never looked upon a women with desire.”

You know the truth, and the truth is this: some Negroes lie, some Negroes are immoral, some Negro men are not to be trusted around women-black or white. But this is a truth that applies to the human race and to not particular race of men. There is not a person in this courtroom who has never told a lie...” -pg. 273. Atticus is trying to convince the jury that Tom Robinson is not guilty. He’s saying that everyone lies no matter what race they are. The reason I think that this part of the speech is the most effective because he’s saying that everyone lies and it’s obvious that the witnesses are lying. Atticus is standing up for Tom Robinson not only because he’s innocent but because he’s human and deserves the same treatment as white people.

When he said this, he was saying that he didn't care what kind of person you are or what color skin you had. He was ready to stay and fight with all he had to fight for his equality. This quote inspires me because it says we don't need to judge people by the color of their skin, but the by the way they act.

I chose the quote “You never really understand a person until you consider things from their point of view, until you climb into his skin” because atticus is trying to tell scout that she should be more understanding of people's opinions because because that way she can get along easily with others. I believe that what atticus said to scout should be taken into consideration and that everyone should read it and do it. Some people these days judge others without knowing them and i f believe that before judging they should consider things from that person's point of view.

"I'm no idealist to believe firmly in the integrity of our courts and in the jury system—that is no ideal to me, it is a living, working reality. Gentlemen, a court is no better than each man of you sitting before me on this jury. A court is only as sound as its jury, and a jury is only as sound as the men who make it up. I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this defendant to his family. In the name of God, do your duty." While he says here that he's no idealist, he's been realistic throughout about his extremely low chances of winning this case. In his closing argument, he's acting as if the outcome he knows is impossible is actually the only possible one, in an attempt to make it so.

Atticus is telling Jem what real courage is. He says that courage is not the idea of a man who holds a gun in his hand to represent how brave he is. Courage is when someone begins something knowing that they don’t have a chance to succeed but they seek through it anyway. This quote inspires by motivating me to face challenges. To do something even though my outcome might not be what I want. To act with fear to accomplish what really is important to me and my dreams.

This quote means that some things never change like racism. Racism has been around for a long time and it’s one of those things that will stick around. He’s telling Jem that sometimes you don’t get the results you want no matter how hard you try. He’s also telling Jem the reality of the cruelty of racism. This also talks about the innocence of children, how it affects them when they face reality. This quote inspires me because no matter what the results are sometimes the only thing you can do the best. This is true life is too short to be stressing over little things sometimes you just have to keep moving forward knowing you tried your best.

“In the name of god, do your duty”Atticus Finch pg.275. Atticus was giving a speech at the end of the tom Robinson's court case and at the end of the speech he had told the quote to the jury after he had talked about how every man is equal when in a courtroom. This quote inspired me because to me it was the quote that had tied his speech together. It had convinced me that there might be a slight chance of the verdict being innocent. He made me feel conflicted because i know that segregation was a big thing back then so 9.5/10 the verdict was gonna be guilty, but the way he worded his speech made me feel there might be a slight chance of the jury looking through tom’s color and actually looking at the evidence.

The quote “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what" is inspirational to me. What he meant was you don't have courage for just having a gun, but you have courage for actually doing something by going through with it. This is inspirational to me, because Atticus Finch had a true explanation of courage, and it showed me that someone that looks like they may be big and tough with courage may be really afraid.

This quote "People generally see what they look for and hear what they listen for." Shows that Atticus could prove that Tom Robinson was innocent but it wouldn't matter. The jury was still going to say he was guilty. The jury were just white men so he had no chance going against a white family. I think this means that people only hear and see what they want to. The quote is inspirational to me because I'm just like this i only listen to what I want.

The quote I chose to do is "Simply by the nature of the work, every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally. This one is mine, I guess."

The quote "I don't want Scout to catch Maycomb disease ". Shows that Atticus didn't want his his children to look at African Americans differently just because of their skin color . This quote is inspirational to me because he didn't want his children to have the same hateful mindset as people in Maycomb because they based people off by their color and they judged African Americans just because they were poor and they weren't like them . Atticus means that Scout should hear everything he's trying to say and tell her so she will understand the disease of social and racial prejudice .
