A question that stood out was many african American kids thought it was important for teachers to like them. It is crucially important to build a relationship with all the children in the classroom, and really learn who they are, what are their internet? She goes on and explains that teachers should really take the time in the beginning of the year and set a foundation with your students. By building that you will have a lot more success in your classroom for the rest of the year.

They might be in single family homes, not have parents at all, be facing some tough times economically. There are numerous things personally they may be going through that we as teachers might not see until we really start to learn who are children are in class. You as the teacher might be the only positive thing the student walking into might have at the time. A teacher needs to be caring and loving because you never know what is going on behind closed doors, and if you do know, ethically you should be doing everything you can to help out that child.
