I think that the idea that a student has ”a math brain” or he/she hasn`t got ”a math brain” is the reason why some teachers induce a kind of frustration in their classrooms . If we start from the idea that everyone can learn it, and we search for the best methods to help students understand math, then I think math will be fun and easy for the most of our students.

I teach math for 11-15 years old students. I'm facing a growing problem: kids with special educational needs. Like Maria Silvia from Italy, I am struggling with choosing the best personalized teaching methods for my students. The interactive methods are the best for my students (grup activities, project based lessons), but they are time consuming, and I have to focus on the exam preparation (they have a final exam in the 8th grade).
I think that this kind of games (online math games) would be a perfect solution for many of my students. Math would be an interesting activity and they would learn by playing.

We calculated the area and perimeter of the school playground (5th grade students). They are exited every time we do it. I also taught them the transformation scales (meters, grams, an so on) using the steps from the school's stairs. I do this like a game (in teams/ individual they have to go up or down the marked steps and transform/ solve an exercise/ task). It is easier for them to understand the concept and they enjoy the activity (cause it's a game

Last year I implemented an educational project named ”Save Humpty Dumpty”. Students had to create a pack for a raw egg. First they had to make the sketch of the pack on paper. The pack had to weigh under 500 grams, and it had to be made from recycled materials. The raw egg , put in its pack had to be thrown from the second store of our school. So they had to create a light, rezistent pack in order to protect the raw egg. The project was a success.

I try to teach my students that they can be everything they want to be. They only have to choose the things that make them happy. I try to show them that math and science are interesting fields and that there still is a lot to be discovered. My students have to choose in the 8th grade the field/profile they will study in high school. So it`s important for them to understand what they want to become.
