What might Jackley have meant when she mentioned “this false dichotomy of us and them”? How might the work of Kiva help to break down that sense of “us” and “them”? (6 points)

I think the false dichotomy of us and them means that from a young age, we don't get enough exposure to the world and what it's like in different place around the country. I think this creates distance between people and makes our universe of obligation less inclusive. The work of Kiva could help alleviate the false dichotomy because it helps the lives of people who may be less fortunate and connects people around the world.

Sergio

I believe that she meant that we were never really taught about other people from other countries when we were growing up. And because of that we don't have a full grasp on situations and how other people live. This causes people to only know what they were taught and don't see themselves worrying about other nations. The work of Kiva might help to break down the sense of "us" and "them" because it helps to connect people around the world and that alone helps to give exposure to people who may have been in a dark corner where no one really knew about them. And it would make our knowledge more diverse.

Rob Smart
