"Circle Time for Young Children" by Jenny Mosley - useful chapters on Emotional Intelligence (Ch 1) inc. self-awareness and managing emotions; and on how to delivery quality Circle Time to build social/emotional/behaviour skills.

Tony Leach & Ellie Lewis (2013) Children’s experiences during circle-time: a call for research-informed debate, Pastoral Care in Education, 31:1, 43-52, DOI: 10.1080/02643944.2012.702781 - argues that Circle Time needs really careful handling because it can be a negative experience for children, the narrative can be controlled by the adults, and the children can feel exposed/pressured into sharing private emotions. Good to contrast this with people like Mosley who are big advocates of Circle Time!

It also gives advice for scoring it. Could do this assessment on a group of target children at the start and end of the intervention as a way of measuring their capacity to self-regulate their emotions?

On page 253 there is a page on assessment in PSHE! I thought this might be helpful given our discussion on difficulties assessing for our common goal.
