         <description><![CDATA[<div>I was very interested to read about the media surrounding college life. Particularly I was interested by the Harvard Lampoon which eventually gave birth to National Lampoon several decades later. However the notion stayed the same the only change was "what pushed the envelope" at the time. in the 1930s it was far easier to seem debauched as opposed to the hedonism of Animal House. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The setting of the college class room and depiction of college professors being insulated from their students is a bit disturbing. Seemed only at the graduate level was there real interchange of ideas and conversations between faculty and their students.<br>Also, the two schools I would have never put together Georgia and Yale, I never knew that is where the Georgia Bulldog came from or that Georgia wanted to emulate the Yale way. I find that fascinating.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first part of Expansions and Reforms provided a wealth of understanding regarding the increased interest in college education and from where it stemmed.&nbsp; There were several sections that really piqued my interests.&nbsp; First, was the shift from the “gentleman scholar” to the “college man” and second was the popularity and focus on Athletics.&nbsp; I found it really interesting to learn that even after the comprehensive report submitted by CFAT, not too many changes were put into place regarding Athletic regulations and accountability.&nbsp; While some schools did create conferences and the commissioner position was created, according to Thelin (2011) this did not have an enormous impact.&nbsp; I also found it interesting that Higher Education today, still sees many of the same problems as they did back then.&nbsp; Colleges are still depicted in movies as places where students drink and party with limited focus on academics, which is unfortunately true for some, but not all.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think what stood out to me the most about this chapter was the lack of focus on academics. While the students that did perform academically well and pursued graduate if not professional studies were not represented within the media, much emphasis was placed on misbehavior and sports. Learning how increased popularity between athletics and the behavior depicted by the media within higher institutions was the focal point behind colleges and universities was somewhat disturbing, but not shocking.   It was clear to see that American higher education during this period of time had lost clarity of purpose.</div>]]></description>
