After reaching to the end of this course, I have gained a deeper understanding of ELL students. I took time to reflect on my TPE chart, that I have created at the beginning of the course.

Reading over my THINK column, I had a general idea of what ELL students are and their basic necessary supports. Building from my foundational perspective of an ELL learner, I learned more in depth about various types of supports, ways to approach strategies, different steps of instructions and building a culturally responsive environment. My vision for an ELL learner is that they are entering a classroom that is physically and culturally inviting. The learning environment focuses on shared learning where knowledge can be passed, recycled and transformed. Students will feel safe to take risks and be aware that all of this is a learning process.

Connection is the key to the learning process with students and teachers. The trusting relationship provides additional ways to approach learning. In order to provide an effective learning for our ELLs, I will advocate more on building relationships and getting to know our students individually.

I was once an ELL learner as well, and I truly believe that it is the teacher who sets up the ELL's learning journey. With "care" and "warm" approach, students will open up to the new learning environment, and engage themselves in the classroom.

Throughout this course, I learned the importance of teaching Active listening skills. I understand that oral speaking skills are valuable for our ELL students as well as building a culturally responsive classroom. I will focus on providing students the time and space, for them to speak and share their ideas with their peers.
