Step 1 – Choose a Book

Book Title: Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle

Grade Level: Grade 3 (pre-A1 / A1 EFL learners)

Short Summary (2–3 sentences):

Brown Bear is a colourful picture book with a simple, repeating question: "What do you see?" On every page, a new animal appears in a different colour — a red bird, a yellow duck, a blue horse, and many more. Children love the rhythm and the bright pictures, and the book helps them learn animals, colours, and basic English patterns.

Step 2 – Plan Your Trailer

Beginning (hook): A close-up of two big brown eyes opening on a black screen. A soft voice asks: "Brown Bear, Brown Bear… what do you see?" Then the screen fills with colour.

Conflict: The bear sees one animal, then another, and another. Each animal is a different colour. Who will the bear see next? The pictures move faster and faster, and the music grows stronger.

Ending (mystery – no spoilers): The last page shows a teacher and many happy children… but we don't see who they are looking at. The voice says: "Open the book. Find out what they see."

Step 3 – Create the Trailer

Tool used: Canva (video template) + AI voice from ElevenLabs + free music from Pixabay

Includes: bright animal pictures, simple text on screen ("What do you see?"), a calm narration in clear English, and gentle, copyright-safe background music.

Step 5 – Peer Feedback

I watched two trailers and wrote one strength and one suggestion for each.

Trailer 1:

• Strength: The music fits the story very well, and the pictures are clear and colourful.

• Suggestion: The text on screen is a little fast — maybe slow it down so young learners can read it.

Trailer 2:

• Strength: The hook at the beginning is strong and makes you want to keep watching.

• Suggestion: Add a little more silence between scenes, so the story feels calmer.

Step 6 – Teacher Reflection

What was easy or difficult?

The easy part was choosing the book. Brown Bear is short, simple, and full of colour, so it was perfect for a trailer. The difficult part was keeping the trailer short. I had many ideas, and I wanted to put everything in. I learned that less is more — a good trailer shows just enough and keeps a small mystery.

What will students struggle with?

My young learners may struggle with three things: (1) writing a short pitch in English in only 25 words, (2) finding pictures and music that are copyright-safe, and (3) keeping the trailer under 90 seconds. Some students will also need help with pronunciation if they record their own voice.

What support will you provide?

I will give my students a simple planning template (hook / conflict / mystery), a list of free tools (Canva, Pixabay, Pexels), and a word bank with useful sentences like "Meet…", "What will happen next?", and "Open the book and find out." I will also model one trailer in class, step by step, and let students work in pairs so they can support each other. For weaker readers, I will record short voice examples in WhatsApp so they can listen and repeat before they record their own.
