Bell Hooks is using the word terrorist too lightly, and her unwillingness to entertain the idea that Beyonce is a feminist is with the other panelists, does not show good support of other women and what they have to say. I recommend http://blackgirlstalking.tumblr.com/post/85723832227/black-girls-talking-29-this-week-were-talking

starting at 12.14 they talk about Bell Hooks and Beyonce. It helped me think about this.

On Title IX, the speaker may have been overstating the effect it's had on women's confidence. However, it is helpful to see women with different body types regularly succeeding and garnering as much admiration as their male counterparts, in the case of Serena Williams. I believe we would not have this without Title XI.

Like Ma'Riesha said, these videos show the push women make to achieve equality. People have different ways of doing that. I agree with Janet that Beyonce's way probably works more than hurts.

Third wave feminism, is mainly dealing with the transition from fighting to get laws made, to making sure those laws are actually followed/enforced. The videos were useful because they broke down some issues that deal largely with intersectionality, ie: the cross sections between the interests of white feminist, and the safety of woman of color. The videos on Title IX, broke down again the idea that schools are required by law to make sports equal for all genders, but some do not follow through on this in a way that fully empowers women.

The videos connect strongly with our prior learning, I think that 3rd wave feminism as a whole is very connective as a movement. Modern feminist are tying together the diverse fights that different groups of activist having been working towards, and doing this in a way which creates a conversation on both the history, and future of feminism.

Before watching the video i only knew one perspective or wave of looking at the 2nd wave of feminism and that was all based on experience and or personal views. In the video, "what is feminism?" I learned another view which can apply to almost everything. She basically is saying that you can not be a feminist and have biased opinions. for example "you can't not support abortion but be a feminist." I like this idea because it ensures that anyone who is supportive understands all aspects and is willing to open mindedly receive all views.

By watching these videos I understand that schools were forced to provide equal opportunity due to gender inequality in sports.

I see now that the third wave still goes on today with some schools and the Title IX. One school in our conference can't play regular season games for soccer because there's no boys soccer team. Equality, Sports, and Title IX made me understand more now why they can't play schools with everything having to be equal but then again it's also unfair to the girls. Also when Bell Hooks said, "You can't be a feminist when you don't support abortion," because reproductive rights for women and you can't be a feminist but you don't really have to support women's own choices for their bodies. Like, if they don't support abortion, that's their own opinion.

In the first month of class, we learned about how women fought for reproductive rights and the second wave of feminism. With birth control and abortion not being legalized, they felt as thought we had no control over our own bodies when it comes to having children. Also, the third wave of feminism wanted equal opportunities in education and Title IX allowed that.

Women have went through alot in the years with trying to get equal rights. They want to be equal and not feel like they can't do stuff that men do. Title 9 protected girls and women from discrimination in schools sponsored sports they didn't get lots of support.

The videos
1. Laverne Cox, 2. Gloria Steinham, 3. Beyonce's feminism
All videos have similar connections to issues that still exist today. Even now the idea of feminism depends on the person, one might believe that feminism means hating men, the other believes that it truly should be equal across the board with no discrimination. A lot of activist on this idea believe that feminism is to support reproductive rights for all women, and that you should have control over your own body. These videos expanded on how one can view any in power women actress, singer, artist and turn the tables to say that they could be anti-feminist when they are just expressing themselves.
These videos connect to prior learning of the notes we have took and discussed about the abortion rights which ties into how a woman can have control over her own body. Also the quote that Laverne Cox says " all women should be able to wear heels", including all types of women which we started talking about in the 1970's we see this group of the lgbt community, where Laverne just includes every female. In the Beyonce video Janet Mock talks about the generation aspect of the whole it's your body idea, and I believe it does depend on the generation and how society views a certain group, not making it right or wrong but the fact that how society influences how we make that decision.

both Bell Hooks videos & Janet Mock

Watching these videos helped me to realize that we are really trying to reach a definition of what feminism is. Like Bell Hooks says to Laverne Cox there should be boundaries on what is considered feminism and to do this we need to have a better idea of what feminism means. By having a definition of what being a feminist, people are not able use the word as an umbrella term, meaning that feminism cant be an excuse for harmful actions but also excludes those who claim that they are feminists while going against those ideals, such as being anti-abortion. 3rd wave feminism is really about women having the freedom to own their own bodies and sexuality, not having to conform to standards set by society of what it means to be a women, and not being criticized and demonized for doing so. This issue comes up when Laverne talks about wearing heels and during the discussion about Beyonces choices to not conform to standards of modesty. I do not agree with Bell Hooks' statements about Beyonce, however I think that the statements she made have the ability to open up discussion about issues like modesty and sexuality.
These videos connect to the topics previously covered as they are further expanding the rights given to women during the 1st and 2nd wave

Watching these videos helped me understand that we should celebrate the ways we express ourselves, instead of looking down upon a group or person for expressing themselves in a certain way. I also learned that many people associate feminism with anger because they feel guilty about their views, their past views, or feeling superior.

The video about Title IX connected with our prior learning, and went into more detail on it. I learned that title IX forced schools to make sports equal, with 3 requirements: proportionality, progress, and satisfaction (of equality between sexes).

women should not be discriminated against because of the clothes they were or how they present themselves. The videos have expanded my thinking of the third wave of feminism because the video of Title 9 it shows women are still not as equal as men through sports.
The videos connect to my prior knowledge of Title 9 and feminism because it connects to what I have learned in class and how I now view how our sports teams get treated.

Title IX allowed women to play sports. Allowing women to play sports is a major right for women. Before title IX women were not allowed to play organized sports at all. Allowing women to play the same sports as men in organized women's leagues effects us today because millions of females play sports. Allowing women to play sports is just another step towards equality. Janet mock called beyonce a "terrorist" which relates to when Alice paul in the movie Iron jawed angels says " you're worse than an anti-feminist " to the senators wife for not putting her name in the article that she wrote an article but wouldn't put her name in it because it was against her husbands political stance.

All because the "title 9," had made it equal. For the women to be in sports, the government had gave the U.S three test:
-Proportionality
-Progress
-Satisfied Interest
For "proportionality," 51% of girls were in the U.S. So that meant that women should have a 51% chance to play in sports. For "progress," there should be more sport choices. For "satisfied interest," it depends on who would want to join sports.
