1. Intersection shows multiple forms of discrimination overlapping on marginalized groups. This represents oppression because let's take one person. A Black CEO of a company. She is oppressed and may have less business because she's black and a woman. It is likely that she'll be seen as less than by other white male CEOs around her.
2. I went to Hallsville Middle School which is in a rural location and has racist people. In my classes I had the best grades but parents didn't really like me. There were always these academic awards that were given out and they were always given to white boys and sometimes white girls. I knew I had better grades than these boys that were getting the awards. One of my last days there, I spoke to one of my favorite teachers and he confirmed my assumptions. I was at a disadvantage because of my skin color and my gender. He told me I probably would have never won one of those awards, although there were teachers that spoke on my behalf. However, I won the athletic awards.

He wants black people to be able to live comfortably, and not out of fear.
He calls out law enforcement and addresses growing up being scared of the police, running from police even if he had nothing on him out of fear, and that officers are the ones firing the shots at the black community. This song is also written in memory of Salay one of his brother who was killed by an officer.

You also see a white officer forcing a black man down, putting him in handcuffs, looking around and then beating him. Lastly, a white officer arrests Hotboii himself. You can tell because they just comply and you can see the fear on their faces.
The officers have control over all of their victims because they're arresting them and you can see the officers wrongfully manhandling the black men. They have the power in our society and in the video.

Character or Caricature?

The white officers seem real in the video. You know they're not but they have the uniform on, the gun, and the facial expressions that try to display authority. They don't seem to have caricaturistic features at all. The black boys and men are also real they look like typical people who were being hounded by the police. They also do not seem to have caricaturistic features either. When Hotboii put this video together, he wanted it to be as realistic as possible and it shows. The characters definitely have real emotions the main one fear. You can see it on all the black people's faces and the anger on the white officer's faces. The emotions are predictable and the title of the video also puts assumptions in our heads. These characters really do look like regular people, they're on the ground so you assume they get dirty but you don't see it. The black men and boys would be the ones buying the music more than likely and they are depicted in the video. This video 100% depicts reality, that's the reason I chose it. This is everyone's reality. We 've seen police brutality over and over especially in 2020 and it continues to get worse. This issue affects everyone. This video specifies the identities of black people specifically black men and boys and corrupt white police officers very realistically. This video was shot to look very real and it was done well. Prejudice and racism is real and that is represented in this video wonderfully.

I chose the water because the color blue symbolizes the ocean. A place where you can leave your bad memories and sadness like the Lady in blue did with her abortion. It is unpredictable and uncontrollable. It can also represent mystery and calmness. All of these describe and represent the lady in blue. I chose the medical instruments picture because of the poem "abortion cycle #1". That poem really stuck with me. The line "Get them steel rods outta me this hurts" goes perfectly with the picture. Those instruments would've ben used to perform the abortion.
I chose the picture of Kerry Washington, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose because they are some of the actors in the Tyler Perry version. Specifically Kerry Washington because she was the lady in blue in the 2009 version.

I chose the picture of the smiling black woman because of the line " I couldn't stop grinning". After she lost her virginity she was smiling from ear to ear, and that goes hand in hand with the Buick. I imagine the deep black Buick looked very similar to the picture I chose. It's significant and represents her because that's where she lost her virginity something that she'll never get back.
Then I chose the picture of the broken heart because the poem "no more love poems #4". A couple lines that stuck out to me "I was so stupid I was able to be hurt" and "my love is too delicate to have thrown back in my face". This was written by a woman with a broken heart and who is hurt. I felt the broken represented her at the time.

Lady in Royal Blue story

The lady in royal blue has a very unique story. She was born in England and has lived there her whole life. She is 25. She is very calm, caring, trustworthy, compassionate, and is overall a very selfless person. However, she struggles with depression being tense and controlling. She is a black woman of wealthy status in England. She is married to a wealthy white man. To the naked eye, it looks like the couple is extremely happy. That is partly true. Her husband is very happy in his marriage and does all the right things. However, the lady in royal blue is extremely unhappy. She deals with secret depression. She considers suicide on a daily basis but no one knows, because she always wears a smile. As a young child, she was molested repeatedly by a close family member. She never told anyone about it because she was scared that people would see her as weak and she was scared of what would happen to her and her family.

She managed to put that on the back burner and live her life. She received many awards in school for scholastic achievement because she buried herself in her schoolwork. She is extremely intelligent and that is her release. After graduating high school, she married a wonderful man because her family wanted her to. She couldn’t love him because she was completely scared of men. As time went on the molestation weighed heavier and heavier on her heart until one day she committed suicide. The theme this would add to For Colored Girls is the hidden struggles women go through on a daily basis. She is a black woman who presents herself as happy but deep down is hurting more than anyone will ever know because of childhood trauma. Her story is relevant because it’s important for people to know regardless of how happy someone may look they may be dealing with internal struggles that can cause so much pain and ultimately suicide. The main reason why I chose this character was because of the recent talk of 97% of women who have been molested. It has resonated with me and was the first thought that came to my head when creating this character. I chose the color royal blue because it is a beautiful deep color that shows royalty and wealth but can also show depression and sadness but not on the first look. All the ladies in the book were based in the US I thought it would be nice to bring another country in it. I chose England because of the color and I chose and the recent interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
