The story starts out with Darren describing himself and they are out looking for food for this type of people called Little People. Darren is a half vampire and the assistant of a vampire called Mr. Crepsley they travel around with this circus that is called Cirque du Freak. Darren was outside trying to learn a trick that Mr. Crepsley does. It's a trick that an object is a yard away from you and the vampire just stands there and then boom it's in his hand. Mr. Crepsley came out and ask want darren was doing and Darren said that he was trying to make a cross come to his hands. As Mr. Crepsley was explaining to Darren the trick somebody came out of nowhere and put to knifes right under Darren's and Mr. Crepsley's trout. Darren was really frighten he thought it was the end for him but it turned out to be a friend of Mr. Crepsley. The vampire was called Gavner he is a vampire general somebody who makes sure that no other vampire goes against the clan or wants to seek evil. Gavner came to meet with his old friend to talk about some important things that Darren cold not know about. After Mr. Crepsley was done talking with Gavner he told Darren that they had to live tonight to go to a city for some important business. Darren packed up things that he might be needing and brought a friend along named Evra. When they arrived   at the city they found themselves a apartment where they could spend the time. Darren and Evra would go out and explore the city in the day while Mr. Crepsley would sleep. People kept looking at Evra because he was a snake-boy but nobody knew that. So Darren figured a way to cover up Evra's scales. Darren meet a girl named Debbie, their apartments were just across each others. Darren had never seen her because she was sick and didn't come out much. They talk and become friends then start to go out on dates and more stuff. Darren and Evra noticed that Mr. Crepsley was going out every night and coming back tried and without telling Darren where he was going every time. One day Darren and Erva were watching television and saw that 6 people were sliced their necks and drained out of blood. Darren got very mad thinking that it was Mr. Crepsley. They followed Mr. Crepsley every night until the day came. One night the vampire was following a fat man into a slaughter house. It turned out that Mr. crepsley was following a vampaneze a creature that also drinks human blood.  The vampaneze got Evra and there was nothing about that Darren could do he didn't know where the vampaneze was hiding the city was really big. They found out that the vampaneze was hiding in the tunnels under the city. When they found the vampaneze Mr. crepsley killed it and they both went off to search for Evra in the tunnels because he was still alive.

      My reaction to the book
I felt really good about the book it had a bunch of suspense and really good ones.
I didn't learn nothing about the world or myself.I would definitely read more books from this author because the books are really great. Other people should read this type of book it's really interesting.
