My name is Sarah Shin and I chose the article about Assistive Technology for students with dyslexia. I chose this topic because I personally know people with dyslexia and how it has effected their learning process, and I wanted to get a better understanding and see what some of their options are.

The article was about how dyslexia not only effects a student's reading ability, but also their writing and spelling ability as well. It goes on to offer different types of assistive technology that can be used to help students along with the benefits. It also showed how to find assistive technology for students.

The article offered many different types of assistive technology but one I found important was word prediction. Since students with dyslexia also struggle with spelling, using word prediction can help guide them with how to spell words.

Another tech option that was mentioned was narrator. It uses speech recognition for the user to control their computer. That way if they have difficulties reading what's on the screen, they can use their voice and speak to get to where they need. This allows for the student to effectively use their resources without struggling when hitting a rough patch.

This article has taught me resources I can provide to students with dyslexia, allowing them to always be included in their education. Learning about dyslexia has also made me realize that there are resources out there. Previously, I was unaware of the options there were for those with dyslexia. I thought it was something people struggled with and just had to figure out on their own. This article has been helpful for my future as an educator, so that I know that there are always options and ways to help.

This article made me think back to chapter 8 of our textbook and Cristian. Although Cristian did not have dyslexia I felt like his struggles reminded me of this article. Cristian had hearing loss and with a cochlear implant he had a speech and language delay. The different types of communication difficulties made me think that those difficulties were the opposite to the struggles faced with dyslexia. It also made me think back to Ryan in chapter 7 who had a specific learning disability in language arts. Although these are all different types of disabilities, they all struggle with language arts.
