The Indus Valley cities were made out of mud bricks mostly. First, they would mix soil, clay, and water to make mud. Then they would dry it in the sun or in a kiln. After that, they would stack them where they were needed and bind them together with wet mud. This made a very sturdy building that would stay up for decades. There is proof by the ones that are still standing today.

There was a complex concept of town planning in the Indus Valley Civilization. From the excavated remains, it shows that it had urban architecture. There were well-planned grids with main roads and smaller lanes intersecting at right angles. There was a networks of wells. This was how they received water. The standardised dimensions of these bricks, found in the many cities across this civilization, are outstanding. The houses had different levels. The main accomplishments of the cities were grip patterns, city walls, in house wells, a drainage system, granaries, lothal dockyard, and a great bath.

When they Indus Valley people were making their buildings and homes, they used a weight and measurement system they had come up with. They would weight and measure each brick to make sure they were all the same size and everything would fit together and work. Doig that also made the structures stronger and better because everything was the same size. There were no gaps or holes.

The valley was a hot place and their homes were not very big. They spent most of their time outside and used the homes for workspaces. The rich people had courtyards they would sit out on, if they didn't have this they would have a flat roof that had the purpose of an extra room. No ones knows if the children went to school or not, if they did a scribe would teach them and the priest would teach the religious lessons. Most believe that they helped out their families by working.Children might have played board games with counters and dice. Archaeologists have found cube dice with six sides and spots, just like the ones we use today. Historians think the Indus people invented dice.

People from Indus valley are believed to be the first to invent a system of weights and measures. Decimals were used for all purposes. The bricks they used had a ratio of 4:2:1. The people of Indus valley invented an instrument for measuring the horizon and the tidal dock. They are also credited with the button, ruler, and stepwell. The buttons were made from seashells that were made into different shapes and had holes in the middle to be used for clothing. Rulers were made from ivory and the stepwell is found with a bathing pool in what today is called Pakistan.

This was the first civilization to incorporate urban sanitation systems. Personal hygiene seems to have been a high priority. They did not like to be dirty as we do today. Their art was also highly advance with bronze structures of humans, some found to be proportionally correct. Jewelry was complex and has beauty to even today's standards, long carnelian beads were a specialty. Trade was also a high priority, they had an economical civilization other than military. Few weapons have been found. Crops grown included wheat, barley, peas, melons, and sesame. This civilization was the first to cultivate cotton for the production of cloth. Several animals were domesticated including the elephant which was used for its ivory.

It has been widely thought that the Harappans worshipped a mother goddess who symbolized fertility. Unlike that Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations, the Indus Valley seems didn't have any temples or palaces that would show religious rites or specific deities. Many Indus Valley seals had some form of animals, some showed the animals being carried in processions. Others show mythological creations like unicorns. Scholars have theories about the role of animal. Interpretations of these animal include membership in a clan, elite class, or kid structure. One seal from Mohenjo-daro shows a half-human, half-buffalo monster attacking a tiger. This may be a reference to the Sumerian myth of a monster created by Aruru, which is the Sumerian earth and fertility goddess. This is a further suggestion of international trade in Harappan culture.

The worship of trees was widespread. The Pipal tree was considered most sacred. One of the seals shows a god standing between the branches of a people tree. The god was being worshipped. The tree had a spirit protection against evil. The spirit was depicted as a tiger and the evil a bull, snake, goat, or mythical creature. This tree was considered sacred, same as some nowadays Hindu do.

The language has not been deciphered. A collection of written texts on clay and stone tablets have been carbon dated 3300-3200 BC. These contained trident-shaped, plant-like markings that look to be written from right to left. There is a debate about if it was an encoded language at all or if it is related to Indo-European and South Indian. The Indus script remains unreadable without any comparable symbols. It is thought to have come from some of the writing in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Researchers are using technological advances in computer science in order to attempt to decipher it.

The Indus River Valley Civilization was one of the most advance Urban cities. They had one of the most impressive city plans. We know they had graineries and storehouse that showed their population was greater than most during this time. The kids would play with toy cars and the parents would sit around talk and play games. The people of the civilization are believed to create the dice. Pets were also a big part of their life that included dogs, monkey, lizards, and snakes. Their statues and sculptures were advance . To help the process of building their cities go a little faster, they also invented weights and measure for the clay bricks they built with. They would also cremate or bury their dead with their advance relgion. The artwork they made was significant to fertility. Their art work was important

The most significant accomplishment made by the Indus Valley civilizations to me is their invention of the weights and measurements. This sped up production of cities being built because they had a efficient way of making bricks and building different materials. I also think it was a great invention because we still use it today. We built off what they had created, motified it to be a little more advanced to adapt to our way of life. The system worked like this: the people entering the city had to pay a tax according to the weight of their currency. They also weight bricks they were using from buildings to make sure they were making the exact same brinks so it all went together smoothly. Which led to their advance city plans and building structures.
