The first thing I would like to talk about is the overall contrast between these two books, in a societal way. I am comparing the book "Gone" with "Anthem" , I personally think from reading both of these the biggest contrast would be how their societies work. In ANTHEM we have the almost classic dystopian society where everyone is treated to be the same person, but in "Gone", there is a very different dynamic. We see the use of supernatural powers and in the beginning, an almost normal society that turns into a place where there are all of these kids fighting for their lives with the use of magical powers.

Even though I do believe there are more differences than similarities between ANTHEM and "Gone" a similarity I did see was the individualism in the main characters. We see that in both of these books it is known very fast who the main character is, and why they are different. For example, in the beginning of "Gone" we learn that Sam was able to save a lot of his classmates from a school bus crash, which made him special. We also see in ANTHEM when all the boys were taking their classes and learning, he was always ahead of everyone else and always knew more.

Another huge difference between ANTHEM and "Gone" is that the times they were written and published. "Gone" was published in 2008 where as ANTHEM was published in 1937. I think because of the big time difference that makes the styles of each book very different. I think that with "Gone" the whole book could almost symbolize the kidnapping of kids, or kids that go missing. I think that problem has grown exponentially as the years go on and especially from 1937. Therefore, I think that could be one of the messages they are trying to get across in "Gone", they are more afraid of predators and things like that, where as in ANTHEM the worry is more of the government oppressing the people in their town.

Another comparison I would like to make about ANTHEM and "Gone" are the female lead characters. In ANTHEM we have Liberty, or "The golden one" and in "Gone" we have Astrid. I believe that these characters are very similar because they are both very strong and beautiful. The first thing that is said about each of their characters is about their appearance and how they look. They are both said to be very stunning, but most importantly they are very intelligent. We see in "Gone" Astrid's nickname is Astrid the genius, we also know she is intelligent because she is able to help Sam through their whole journey. When we first meet Liberty we think she is just another pretty face as well, but we realize that she is willing to break the rules as well, which mean she knows they should not be treated the way they were. Lastly, of course, they both end up with the main protagonist.
