One institution that I have been socialized to participate on is school (currently college) and some of its characteristics are somewhat similar to high school however there is still a margin of difference in between these two, college is on a much more larger scale of school campus and the professors teach in a different way, students also don't need to ask to use the bathroom they can just leave the classroom and come back. Some attitudes that I have seen in college is that everyone should be respected no matter of who they are, who they identify as or where they are from. Some values that I've learned to do better thanks to college is to socialize more with people of my classrooms and to be more engaged on any group or class activities so that I am able to obtain a better understanding of the class an the topic of it.

An institution i have been socialized to participate in is school. From a young age i was taught how to behave in school, the tasks i would have to do and the relationships i could form. For example, being on time, being respectful, and approachable was something that i was taught. These were characteristics that would ensure i had a nice experience in school but throughout the years i picked up a few things of my own that helped me better fit in this institution. For instance, minding your business is a pretty big one. being able to focus on what your doing and not worry about what others are doing has allowed me to become successful in my educational career. Being open-minded is another one, at home i was taught that there was only one way to live your life and that there was only this particular type of people but through school i have learned that that's not the case. There are many types of people who live different lifestyles and being open to understand and respect them is essential to fit into this ever changing society.

In my school I have learned at a young age, is to never give up, be respectful to others and adults. These were my main characteristics that I would bring to my school through middle school and high school. School for me helped be more social with others and to ask for help when I need it and for that I have good friends. In college now with a whole new different environment but with the same characteristic they will help me better understand myself.

School is one of the most socialized institutions I was told to participate in. When I was younger I really struggled with school and did not care much for it. When I started middle school, my middle school taught me that in order to get a "good job" I will need to "go to college and change the world". In middle school and high school, I had midterms and final exams every 6 weeks. With this, I started to develop anxiety because I knew I struggled with certain classes such as history and reading. I was new to all these tests and was very scared that if I did badly I would have to go to summer school. My school even had this rule that if you have 10 absences you go to summer school, on top of that every late counted as 3 absences. I was taught to wear a uniform, not to have colors nails, no unnatural hair colors, or even wear jewelry because it will make other kids who don't have that privilege feel bad about themselves. I developed into a very hard-working student. I was scared that I would fall behind and have to achieve all my dreams a little later on in life if I ever failed any classes. I also learned that to be successful you got to fake it to make it. Now that I am in college. I am striving for a master's degree in order to become a therapist. I learned over time that everyone's success comes at its own pace and not everyone will receive their success as quickly as the next person. This lesson is something I am still getting used to. (I kind of forgot about some of the examples explained in the class and the link to the slides wasn't uploaded so I'm not sure if I really added 2 course materials from Monday and Wednesday class).

An institution that I was obliged to participate in was and is school. School was always mandatory to attend and having to socialize was part of the unofficial deal. It taught me people come and go in your life, you form friendships and relationships. School also taught me the basics in education and street education even. Although I personally have never liked being social, college is definitely an environment where you have to engage in more social interactions. It is hard because I very much prefer to be by myself but it is clear that this is just the beginning with socializing!

The environment was filled with many social kids. Sooner or later I realized that I was going to have to be more social. From a kid to now I had lots of struggle with being more social. Yet school showed me that I can overcome my struggle of being anti-social. Even though I helped myself, I have had teachers helped me along the way. Teachers have told me that " If I stay quite, i will never overcome my fears. That taught me a lesson to be more out in the open . Identity came along the way because i realized the more social I became, the more i realized about my self. I realized that my communication skills were on point.

One institution that I was socialized in was family. From a young age, I was taught that family was extremely important and they are some of the only people you could truly depend on. some characteristics, behaviors, beliefs, and attitudes I learned from family was to be a team player and carry out various tasks with the assistance of others. Also how to communicate with respect and diligence to my fellow family members. these attitudes and behaviors didn't just stop but they were carried on in my life outside of my home. which ended up better preparing me for the world that I was going into. Within your family is where your first sense of your core beliefs are generated. Whether or not someone would choose to carry these beliefs into their life later on is up to them. But as kids, you do what your parents do because you look up to them and want to be like them. As adults your opinions and core beliefs generally get challenged and that's where you truly become in control of your future.

An institution that really has socialized me definitely is school. From a young age we are taught to share with others, treat others how we would like to be treated, and make friends. Then later on in high school for me at least, going to a presentation based high school I had to socialize more. I had to get to know staff and teachers on my own for different things. To this day I still do struggle a lot with doing these things I have been taught to do my whole life but without being taught it, it would be a lot harder to handle. I think my high school, even though it was not the best school did set me up a lot for the future. School teaches you that if you don't ask for things, you won't get any help. Obviously, it isn't meant to ask every little thing, but it is still an important thing to know, especially now being a college student. Without being socialized by schools I wouldn't know the best way to study for it to work for me, how to get along with new people. How to even present even if I still get anxious every time beforehand.

An institution that i've been socialized to was school. From pre-k to middle school to high school and thankfully now college. At the age of 5 you are taught to be nice to others and that sharing is caring. I've been able to remember every detail of my life from when i was about 5/6. School was my favorite place to go although i didnt have many friends and was a shy kid i did enjoy my elementary days. In middle school you behave for the most part childish, you don't think before you speak .Overall in middle school i was taught that i shouldn't act that way ,that i was on my way to high school and should be more mature. In High school i learned a lot , i learned to mind my business and just go on about my day but by this i mean drama not like if i see someone getting beat up i wont speak up. a lot of people in high school are still imature so i learned to accept that and to just let them mature at their pace since i still have friends who are younger. I learned that everyone is completely different but at the same time everyones the same . I've learned to stick to myself to keep going and to just stay focus on my priorities.

Social media is a social institution that I have been socialized to for many years. In social media, we're taught to post and entertain or be entertained by others in many ways. Some characteristics of this institution are posting, watching, creating, etc. I socialize to this by posting stuff on my Instagram, others watch it, like it, and can either swipe up or comment if they want to. These are also behaviors that fall under this institution. You have to interact or post your content for others to see. What's the point of social media just to not post right? But there are people who have social media but don't follow these norms. They're being deviant, but that's another deeper topic.

The main institution I have been socialized to participate in is school. Since society deems school necessary, it is pushed onto children when they are young. As a toddler, my parents would teach me the fundamentals of learning like reading, writing, and math which prepared me for school and I am very appreciative of that but it shows how society pushes school. This idea is prominent even into adulthood with college. It is ingrained in the minds of many that without a degree and college education, you won't get anywhere in life. Education is a fundamental part of life but you don't need school to get an education. School condenses what you learn into what society wants you to learn and sometimes that could be a positive or negative thing. Important things I have learned in school before college are more about discipline and socialization than any of the actual material that is taught.

When it came to me or my brother acting wrong or saying something we shouldn't have my mom would give us this stern look. Which let us know we messed up and made us stop everything we were doing. Most of my characteristics come from my mom while others are things I've gained on my own. For example my mom has shown me to be caring for myself and others, always be honest and showed me to be open minded. She's also taught me many values such as appreciation, self reliance and patience. All of these characteristics, behaviors and values are things you see throughout the whole family. For me to not have any of these I would have collapsed in the family as these are very significant. I would have been looked upon as an outsider as I would have not been able to function within my family.

An institution that I have been socialized to participate in is church. I was taught to always attend on Sundays, to always listen to the sermons, and to always be respectful. Although good characteristics I always questioned everything we did, which always felt like it was frowned upon by everyone in the church. Defeating the purpose of educating me on why my religion was so important, I eventually branched out and rebelled. I grew self-aware and religion did not make sense to me in a way, for instance the question that always lingered in my mind was, if there really was a God, why would he allow so much pain and evil in this world. A few years later I convinced myself to attend mass one Sunday by myself and it would eventually change my life. Now, I taught myself, time management, self-education, discipline to go and all around it taught me to be a better person outside of the building. Of course, people think that is obvious, but you would be surprised how many lost souls there are out there.

Society is the biggest influence and possibly the most controlling institution to mankind. Society is the one institution that no person can ignore. It involves trends, norms, and all types of rules to fit in with the current era. The thing is society has a mind of it's own and others just choose to follow any new idea that society presents. As a kid to my current time society has always influenced my actions whether if I ever noticed it or not. From my hobbies, food that I like to eat, or even the people I choose to hang out with. Yes all of these things might be things that I choose to do however, if you think of it, it's the position that society has put me in that has made me like these certain things. For example; if I like pizza that may be my chose to like it but maybe it's because I'm from Italy which I have no control of. Therefore my decisions are influenced by situations that society has put me in. And it influences all of our actions in some type of way. Something we have no control of.

I was taught to be grateful and emphatic, but not everyone is like that. I like to take my time to be with myself and I know that socializing is very necessary more now I don't limit myself to meeting new people, but I don't worry about what happens around on me my thoughts are always focused on knowing why I'm in that place and where I want to go.

School has been an institution that I have been attending since I was at a young age. This institution has allowed me to build so much connections and relationships to so many individuals. This institution has taught me so many important life skills and lessons. School has taught me to be respectful, be on time with your attendance and also your assignments. School is one of the factors that have molded me into who I am today because I have learned so many useful skills that I use throughout my life.
