He learned his craft from growing up with his father, a photographer with Sports Illustrated for more than 50 years. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and his background in analog darkroom techniques, he brings a deep understanding of the photographic process to his editorial and advertising work. His father also instilled a family passion for surfing. Bjorn Iooss was influenced by this freedom and exhilaration of travel to coastal destinations early on. To this day, the locales where waves and coastline meet is an aesthetic that features prominently in Mr. Iooss’ work. His personal blog serves as a visual diary featuring many photographs from early on in his career and his personal travels. Having gained industry experience by assisting numerous photographers, Mr. Iooss was able to travel to far-flung reaches of the globe early in his career. His travel-centric images are complemented by studio portraiture that is equally well received.
