Last semester, as a part of the Introduction into Education class, we had to earn our first couple hours of observation. I first visited a few schools in Fayetteville, then a kindergarten school in my hometown. The teacher that I was observing at the time had such a fun reward system! Everytime the class did something good or listened, such as putting their computers back correctly in the cart, a colorful pompom was added into a mason jar. After the jar was full of them, the class earned a pizza party! This is a simple and inexpensive way to keep students inneractive within their classrooms.

Line Stickers

Getting kindergarten students in line quietly can be quite tricky. I have seen many strategies in classrooms, but this one works the best. The teacher dismissed each table to get into their formation to leave the classroom, and not only were the students numbered, but they find their place in line with their sticker on the floor. Each student has their name on the floor in a vertical line towards the door, so it takes less time and distractions to leave the classroom!

Feelings Door

When students enter a classroom, you have no idea how they could be feeling. They could be tired because they got no sleep at home or hungry because they did not get fed. When I saw this idea online, I thought it was incredible. Before a student enters the room, they show the teacher what emotion they are feeling. Their classmates do not have to know, but this strategy allows the teacher to know what her students are feeling and allows her to treat them appropriately throughout the day.
