About Starbucks:

Starbucks was founded in 1971 by three men; Gerald Baldwin, Gordon Bowker and Zev Siegl. In 1987 former employee of Starbucks Howard Schultz bought Starbucks for $3.8 million. Today Starbucks has 32,000 stores in 80 countries.

What is a Business Analysis:

A business analysis is a professional discipline used by analysts to identify needs and recommend solutions to address these problems

In this presentation I will be conducting a SWOT analysis to find both internal and external factors that affect the business. While Focusing on two aspects of the marketing mix in which this case it would be Price and Product.

For my analysis of the companies Macro and Microenvironment I will be focusing on competition and social/cultural changes in society

SWOT:

A swot is an analysis tool used by businesses to identify and evaluate internal and external factors that affect the business. It aims to identify key strengths, minimise weaknesses, seize opportunities and counteract any threats to the business.

Strengths:

A swot is an analysis tool used by businesses to identify and evaluate internal and external factors that affect the business. It aims to identify key strengths, minimise weaknesses, seize opportunities and counteract any threats to the business.

Weaknesses:

Some weaknesses that I have identified for Starbucks would be their high prices and high employee turnover. Due to their high prices it allows competitors to launch attack ads towards Starbucks about their prices. As well it will be hard for Starbucks to gain new customers if there are alternative products at cheaper prices, this makes their loyal customer base extremely important to Starbucks revenues. Social and cultural changes can have an affect on how people view Starbucks prices. People will look towards cheaper products that do the same thing rather than branded products which have been around for decades

Opportunities:

A change in culture around the world has seen people look at brands differently. People want their brands to be more sustainable to the environment, and offer heathy alternatives to their products. Starbucks has done a good job in making it their sole mission in promoting their efforts towards the environment and offering customers healthy alternatives. Because of these changes in culture it has allowed for new competition to enter the market, the new competition would be able to start with a clean state and promote their desire to be sustainable and offer healthy drinks.

Threats:

Two threats I have identified for Starbucks would be a competitive market and the global supply chain. The coffee market in the UK is very competitive with competitors like costa, Greggs and McDonalds. Because of this it is hard for Starbucks to take a large portion of the market share. Cultural changes can make it even more difficult for to enter new markets as they would need to cater their menu to the consumers of that market and if they make a simple mistake it could lead to being a costly one.

Conclusion:

To conclude my business analysis on Starbucks, they should focus on the cultural and social changes in society. This way they lead the market on new trends, which can help attracting new customers and deterring new competition against them. However, they do need to watch their pricing because even if their loyal consumer base is willing to pay on the higher end of the market a step to far in that area can lead to the business losing customers.
