I know people who have who have friends and family who haven't been able to leave the house at all since the pandemic started because they're at a higher risk. And things like if you have Medicaid you're only allowed to have $2,000 in assets, and many places aren't always accessible.

Presley: I am most interested in education as I want to become a high school math teacher. I am interested in equitable education and looking at education through the lens of a teacher. Although, I am also interested in the ways society and communities are helping families and individuals that have low economic statuses. Whether that is through employment initiatives, food distribution, workshops, etc.

And well, because of my personal connection to it I'd like to get to know the local queer community better as well.

Presley: I want to get to know single family households and the Hispanic community better and/or other minority groups.

If it's close enough I can walk, or I could take the Comet.

Presley: I do have a car and would love to assist in giving rides or carpooling.

Even when you're aware of a problem and that it impacts people differently, I've noticed that when it is not something that directly impacts you, you tend to downplay it even if you're not doing it intentionally. So I want to unlearn any misconceptions I have, and really listen to those who have experience with the issues.

Presley: I want to challenge myself to be a doer and not just a planner. I’m really good at planning things but don’t often put them into action. I also want to challenge myself to get to know people better and be willing to ask questions even when I am scared to.

Not in the way that inspires arrogance or ignoring criticism, but rather not doubting myself all the time, and take action rather than overthink until I don't do anything.

Presley: I want to personally grow in my desire to serve and be a servant to others, those around me directly and indirectly. I want my heart to grow bigger for people and have a better knowledge of people and the systems of society in general.

Mutual aid is all about human connection and we in America tend to be very lonely people. If anything I want to be someone that people can talk to and that they feel they can rely on.

Presley: I want to contribute both brains and muscle in this experience. I not only want to make a plan, but I want to take action as well.  Throughout my service learning I also want to contribute a sense of care, honesty, and authenticity. I want to be myself in the work that I do in this class.
