The Minamoto clan and the Taira clan were the main clans associated with the war. The war occurred in the Shimonoseki Strait between Honshu and Kyushu. The Minamoto clan emerged victorious after seizing power and made the capital Kamakura. The ending of the battle was when Minamoto no Yoshitsune defeated Taira forces in naval battle. The reason behind the Genpei War was because of the Heiji rebellion and the rise of power from the Taira clan. It took place during 1600 until 1868. It begun when Tokugawa Ieyasu came to power in 1598 and then passed down his title to his successor. After, the title of Shogunate was passed down by generations. This occurred in Edo; which is modern-day Tokyo. This period started because Tokugawa Ieyasu wanted the title to be known as a hereditary Tokugawa prerogative. It ended because of mounting opposition weakened the power of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The Mongols decided to invade Japan because Kublai Khan perhaps wanted to re-establish his Mongol heritage or rekindle Chinese trade relations with Japan. The invasions took place at Hakata Bay. This invasion was a battle between the Yuan invasion force and the Japanese. The result of this battle was two serious types of typhoons known as Kamikaze, decimating the Mongol fleet which leaves the Japanese winning the invasions and defending their homeland. Though, this devastated Japan's resources and power in the region.
