This year, we covered most of the major school events like Lock-In, the musical, house events, and sports news. We also had articles about what’s happening in the world, food reviews, and research pieces about school lunch, advisory, and other random-but-interesting topics.

Monica Ma (12th grade) usually did food reviews and articles related to food and food safety. Leo Liu (12th grade) was our main sports writer,he covered most of the games and athletic updates. Tanya Li (10th grade) put together some fun articles based on student surveys, like MBTI types and favorite classes. We also had research and current event pieces from the writer of this article herself Tiffany Lim (11th grade), including stories on the lunchroom food, the advisory system, and even a wrap-up on major news in the U.S.

As a staff, we learned a lot like how to write different types of articles and how to properly research. We also learned the do’s and don’ts of journalism: like not sharing drafts before they’re published, always citing sources if you quote someone, and making sure to use a person’s full name the first time they’re mentioned. We also started learning AP style—when to capitalize, when abbreviations are okay, stuff like that.

If I were to do it differently, I wouldn’t change much—except maybe add more opinion pieces. Those are always fun to read and write, and they show more of our voice as students.
