Hydrus means "Male water snake" while Hydra means "Female water snake" 

Hydrus (or Hydra) is the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. A giant-monster-like-snake with nine heads, one of them immortal. 
Anyone who tried to kill Hydra/Hydrus would immediately find out that when one head were cut off, two would come out (regenerate). 
The death of the Hydra was caused by Hercules (his 12 labours).
As Hercules cut off each head one by one, lolaus (his nephew) was set to the task to cauterize (burn the wound) so no heads would come out. Hercules cut off the immortal head and buried it under a heavy rock, deep inside. the myth of cancer is that when hercules killed his family he had to pay for his actions and was put under control of the king eurystheous who set him a series of labors. In the second of the labors he was ordered to kill the hydra who was an multi headed monster. In order to distract hercules an girl/woman send an crab to bitez him and distract him. But when Hercules was killing that beast (hydra) he crush the Crab at the same time (RIP Crab) after ze fight a goddesssss hera awarded its bravery by placing the crab in the sky as a constellation.
