The tourists arrival globally over the past decade has increased. For example, the number of tourists arrival has increased by 266.79 million from 1995 to 2005. This is mainly due to the introduction of budget airlines making travelling cost cheaper and affordable. However there was anomalies. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the tourists arrival decreased by513.88 million from 2019 to 2021. this is because people were stuck in their country

For example, the emerge of budget airlines offer air tickets at lower prices, lowering transport costs, especially for international travel. The lowering in ticket prices had made it more affordable, allowing more tourist to have the ability to travel. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are anomalies, where the tourism arrival globally decreased. For example, the international tourist trips in East Asia and the Pacific had decreased by 471.1million from 2019 to 2021. This is because of the travel restrictions, where many countries have implemented travel restrictions, such as border closures, to prevent the spread of the virus.

Generally, there is an increasing trend of the tourist arrivals over the years. From 1995 to 2019 the tourist arrivals have increased by 1247.21 million from different regions. This might because of disposable incomes increasing allowing tourist to have more allowance to afford travelling to many different places. However, there was an anomaly whereby there was sharp decrease in tourist arrivals. From 2019 to 2020 the tourist arrivals have decreased by 1304.53 million from different regions. This because during those years, COVID-19 outbreak had caused many people to stay at home and most borders of different countries were closed not allowing tourist to travel.

From 1995-2021 there is an increasing general trend in the number of tourist trips in all the listed regions. Mostly from 1995-2019, around 300M-900M (+600M) in Europe, 120M-500M (+380M) in East Asia, 100M-300M (+200M) in America, 13M-50M (+37M) in Africa, 10M-60M (+50M)in Middle east and 5M-40M (+35M) in South Asia.

This may be because as the regions develop, it is able to build more infrastructure allowing easier access and was better able to promote their respective regions through the use of social media or arising travel agencies.

There is however, an anomaly, from 2019-2021, there is a sharp decrease in the number of tourist trips in all regions, from 900M-360M (-540M) in Europe, 500M-20M (-480M) in East Asia, 300M-80M (-220M) in America, 50M-12M (-38M) in Africa, 60M-20M (-40M) in Middle east and 40M-9M (-31M) in South Asia.

This drop in tourism is caused by the spread of Covid-19 beginning at the end of 2019, where people are too afraid to travel lest they contract the virus. Quarantines and lockdowns were also initiated by many governments across the region, resulting in a decline in tourism.
