For severals years he worked as a waiter in Virginia and than in Washington where he was arrived in 1930. He started to work as a pantry man at the White House in 1952. Allen was very affected by the death of President Kennelly in 1963 but it was with a lot of tears that he found the strength to go back to his work. In 1981, Allen atteined the most prestigious rank of butlers serving for th White House.
