Two things i learnt are singapore is not just a chinese malay and indians but theres also people from US , Britian and many Europe Countries. Secondly , i also learnt that you do not need a citizenship to live in Singapore.

One thing i wanna know about is why doesnt she want to go back to her hometown now that she is older?

2 things I learnt:

The others in the CMIO struggles with adapting to our culture and lifestyle due to the difference between ours and theirs

I learned that some Singaporean discriminate other Singaporean due to their backgrounds

I'm curious why she started school in international school and not a public school if she decided the change to a public school in secondary

Two new things that I learned:

1) Singapore has a CMIO system. The CMIO system " the ethnic classification is essentially an administrative thing tool for the government to manage policies around race, it is also a key element of people's identity

2) Is that she has the talent to switch her accents? Not only that but she is also able to know when to switch her accent when she is talking to a specific person

One new thing that I learned:

1) Why didn't her parents send her to a typical public school instead of an international school? since the primary language that both students and teachers

use

2)Even after 21 years, she is still not a citizen of Singapore, why doesn't she want to have citizenship?

Two things I learnt:

Firstly, I learned the phrase “code switching ability”. I have always seen videos online of people changing their accents or the way they speak but I never knew there was a term for it.

Secondly, I learnt that the environment you grow up in can affect the way your speech will develop.

I would like to know how Ms Mitchell handled those hurtful comments.

1. There are not only the three major racial groups living in Singapore (Chinese Indian Malay) but also Americans and Eurasians.

Why?

The text stated, “educating children about the potential risks of social media and smartphone use is better than prohibition.” I agree with this as, just banning the usage of smartphones wouldn’t do much other than giving the students more of an urge to want to use their phones. And the text also stated something that by banning phones fully it fails to prepare students for the digital world that they will inevitably enter.

2. How would you feel if there is phone ban in Regent

Secondary School where you have to surrender your phones from the start of school until the day ends?

Why would you feel so?

I think I would personally be a little happy as the school is technically helping me to limit my phone usage. With the surrendering of our phones I feel like I could definitely better focus and not feel tempted to check my phone. Not only that, during recess and lunch I could better use my time instead of always being on my phone.

1. I do not agree with the opinions of the article saying that banning handphone usage is a good idea. Although it does prevent students from getting distracted in class. Instances like emergencies, students will not be able to call for help if they are in danger.

2. I would feel unjustified. If they were to ban phone usage in Regent, I feel that it is targeted to more notorious groups of students rather than the majority of pupils in the school. Banning handphones for everyone in the school is just unfair because mainly in Regent, there are specific students which cause ruckus and disrupts teachers' teaching time. Whereas the majority of other students in Regent abide by the rules of no handphones in class

1.i agree that mobile phones are one of the major factor that affects students learning as they distract them and may cause them to lost interest on studying

2. I will feel that taking our phones away will make classes boring as activities such as Kahoot and Quizlet are no longer available and we will have to go back to pen and paper for classes which might be very monotonous for many students which can cause students to not focus

I agree from the Principal Mr Mough that keeping phones away will be able to keep distraction. As generation now , we are always glued to the screen and we have been slaved to our phones till now. Keeping the phone away will keep distractions such as notifcations from whatsapp , social media and games to prevent students from being distracted and being focused in school

If Regent Secondary School were to do something like this . I would feel enraged. Half of our lessons now in Regent Secondary School Requires Us to use an electronic devices , especially our phone .It would be troublesome to take back our phones and to return it back to the teacher at the end of the day

Secondly , our safety . Without our phones , i understand you do not get distracted by friends who are texting on whatsapp. However , if your family has an emergency and is trying to reach out to you. You would not know as you do not have your devices or phones to communicate with your family. Making it difficult. Also , not all the students are using the devices in class. Itis just the few mischevious students using it. Regent Banning the handphone would make everyone feel unjustified as they did not do anything wrong but are also suffering from the ramifications of surrendering the deviced

Because Students will refer to various videos on the Internet and do things that hurt themselves, such as self-harm, which many students will do, and smoking.

There are also people on the Internet saying that e-cigarettes are harmless to the body, etc. But in fact, e-cigarettes are more difficult to quit than cigarettes and are more harmful.

I disagree with the banning of phone although it make student less distracted but the thing is we did not slove thr main problem of why they are distracted from phone.this is because phone is the most cheapest thing that you can do for your recreation and entertainment.

So banging phone only solve short term effects but not long term

One opinion from the article is that South Korean banning for smartphones in schools are a valid reason.This can be seen from research shows that some 50000 teenagers who spent more than 4 hours a day on their smartphones are likely to develop mental health problems. This means that they are banning smartphones for the safety of their students

2.If there was a ban of smartphones in regent I would be very upset as smartphones are our personal belongings why do I have to give it up. For most students they are use to having their phones with them all the time so taking it away will cuz a lot of dismay is a lot of the students

one opinion from the article that i agree with is they said cellphone bans come alongside research suggesting that social media use increases the likelihood of mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression in young people which is true if you use your phone for a extensive period of time.

if regent sec banned cellphones and we had to surender them at the start of school i would not feel very sad because it would help us to focus better in class and socialise during recess and lunch instead if being on our phones all the time

I agree with the how students although they dislike having their phones taken in the morning they acknowledge it had helped them remain more focused in class and they realize it was truly a distraction

I agree with the how students although unhappy with having to submit their phones everyday are willing to acknowledge that it has benefited them in remained focused and attentive in class

2. I think that phones are useful during lessons for research and productivity. Instead of writing down you ideas, wouldn't it be more efficient to type it out and publish it on a platform that teachers can easily read and give feedback. Singapore is already behind technology therefore it is a better option for students to have their phones with them during school time.

2.Personally , i feel that nowadays young people do not find outdoor activities appealing . This is because, due to the advancement in technology entertainment has become more addictive resulting in many young people losing interest in outdoors

No. I dont think outdoor activity appeal to young people. As Technology is being more sophisticated , young people seem to be more interested in whats on the screen, being distracted and addicted.This let them not go out to do outdoor activity. An example is myself , i was glued to my screen for 11 hours once in the weekends just because i finished exams and wanted to have some fun. By this happening , i lost track of my time , skipped my meals and forgetting to do my chores.

I disagree with the opinions expressed in the articles that banning usage is a good idea. Even though it is true that it prevents students from getting distracted in class. In situations like family emergencies or any type of emergency, the students are unable to call for help if they are in danger.

Not only that, nowadays many schools are using phones for activities like Kahoot, SLS, and many more. Furthermore, in the article, it was said that multiple students will put in "dummy phones in the locker," which means the ban will not be effective at all. That's why I feel that it is unnecessary to ban the use of phones in school.

I will feel unsettled and unreasonable. I think that it will be very effective for students to concentrate better when our phones are not near us and to check our phones whenever a message pops up. I will feel uneasy as the lockers are not only the best material to keep our phones, but also the ban should be targeted at students who are infamous, rowdy, or who are just not committed to learn.

I do not think that outdoor activities will appeal to young people nowadays, as technology is advancing every single day. Young people are more interested in Trends in entertainment, such as video games and social media, which have shifted interests away from outdoor activities. Many young individuals live in urban areas with limited access to natural spaces, making outdoor activities less accessible to them

Nowadays, youths are so immersed in their devices which often leads to them spending long periods of time at home when they don’t have school.
