What is one opinion from the article that you agree with?

Why?

The text stated, “educating children about the potential risks of social media and smartphone use is better than prohibition.” I agree with this as, just banning the usage of smartphones wouldn’t do much other than giving the students more of an urge to want to use their phones. And the text also stated something that by banning phones fully it fails to prepare students for the digital world that they will inevitably enter.

2. How would you feel if there is phone ban in Regent

Secondary School where you have to surrender your phones from the start of school until the day ends?

Why would you feel so?

I think I would personally be a little happy as the school is technically helping me to limit my phone usage. With the surrendering of our phones I feel like I could definitely better focus and not feel tempted to check my phone. Not only that, during recess and lunch I could better use my time instead of always being on my phone.

Sanchia

I do not agree with the opinions of the article saying that banning handphone usage is a good idea. Although it does prevent students from getting distracted in class. Instances like emergencies, students will not be able to call for help if they are in danger.

I would feel unjustified. If they were to ban phone usage in Regent, I feel that it is targeted to more notorious groups of students rather than the majority of pupils in the school. Banning handphones for everyone in the school is just unfair because mainly in Regent, there are specific students which cause ruckus and disrupts teachers' teaching time. Whereas the majority of other students in Regent abide by the rules of no handphones in class

Bosco

I agree from the Principal Mr Mough that keeping phones away will be able to keep distraction. As generation now , we are always glued to the screen and we have been slaved to our phones till now. Keeping the phone away will keep distractions such as notifcations from whatsapp , social media and games to prevent students from being distracted and being focused in school

If Regent Secondary School were to do something like this . I would feel enraged. Half of our lessons now in Regent Secondary School Requires Us to use an electronic devices , especially our phone .It would be troublesome to take back our phones and to return it back to the teacher at the end of the day

Secondly , our safety . Without our phones , i understand you do not get distracted by friends who are texting on whatsapp. However , if your family has an emergency and is trying to reach out to you. You would not know as you do not have your devices or phones to communicate with your family. Making it difficult. Also , not all the students are using the devices in class. Itis just the few mischevious students using it. Regent Banning the handphone would make everyone feel unjustified as they did not do anything wrong but are also suffering from the ramifications of surrendering the deviced

While it may help reduce distractions in class, it could also be problematic in urgent situations. For example, if there’s an emergency, students wouldn’t be able to call for help, which could put them at risk.

I would feel that such a ban is unfair. If mobile phone use were to be prohibited in Regent, it would seem as though the decision targets certain groups of problematic students instead of reflecting the behavior of most students. It wouldn’t be reasonable to ban phones for the entire student body just because a few individuals create disturbances. In reality, the majority of students at Regent follow the rules and do not use their phones during class time. The issue lies with a small number of students who disrupt lessons, not with everyone.

1.Instead of banning smartphones or social media, it's better to educate children about the risks and responsible use. Prohibition may only increase their desire to use devices, while education prepares them to navigate the digital world safely and thoughtfully. Schools should focus on teaching online safety, privacy, and critical thinking, helping students make informed decisions rather than restricting access entirely.

2. I'd be happy if the school helped limit phone usage, as surrendering my phone would allow me to focus better and avoid distractions. During recess and lunch, I'd have more time to engage in other activities instead of constantly being on my phone.

As Technology is being more sophisticated , young people seem to be more interested in whats on the screen, being distracted and addicted. This let them not go out to do outdoor activity. By this happening , i lost track of my time , skipped my meals and forgetting to do my chores.

This is because they may find it exciting to step out of their homes and try something new or different such as rock climbing, bungee jumping, or even playing new sports. Most of these activities and many more are hosted outdoors, hence attracting youths.

Li Ying

Sadly, I have not gotten a chance to visit any of the 18 cultural locations.

In my opinion, I feel that outdoor activities should appeal to young people. Nowadays, youths are so immersed in their devices which often leads to them spending long periods of time at home when they don’t have school. This can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, so think outdoors activities should appeal to young people as it can serve as a break from schoolwork and from one’s devices and just enjoy and spend time outdoors.

I personally have not been to any of the stated locations before.

I think that outdoor activities don't appeal as much to young people nowadays as compared to the past. Today, many young people such as children and teens engage in other activities such as gaming, watching movies, and generally using electronic devices for entertainment. For example, many of my classmates engage in gaming during recess hours in school instead of eating or doing sports. On the other hand, many young people nowadays still find outdoor activities appealing. Examples of such activities can be like, cycling, ball sports, fishing and jogging. These activities can be appealing if you want to relax or have fun but avoid activities which require screen time. For many, it is also a hobby which they engage in frequently. Hence, i feel that outdoor activities dont appeal to young people nowadays although there are still people who enjoy outdoor activities.
