Health education is all about real life applications and experiences and requires knowledge about themselves specifically. Health is already student centered. We want students to learn how to live a long healthy life. Asking questions about students lives, habits and thought processes now and helping them come to personal solutions is constructivism in a health classroom!

This is structured controversy in the classroom. Students are asked this question at the beginning of class and now have the class period to come to their own conclusions. They are provided with hard copies of articles as well as class chrome books. They can use their notes from the unit. A lesson about vasocontricted blood vessels, an consequence of smoking.
Have the class divided in half which half the students getting full water bottles with three thumb tack holes in the top.
The other half of students get full water bottles with one large hole (pea sized) in the top. 
Which has more holes?
Which side can release more water?
Which side will empty first?
After the class empties the water bottles (the side with the large hole should empty first) have them discuss what caused the water bottle to empty faster, what does this have to do with smoking? What happens to our body?

Refusal Skipps
Students are divided into groups of different skill sets. They have to create a relatable scenario that they can apply their learned refusal skills too. Students write the detailed scenario and then use the S.T.O.P. Refusal skills to show how the situation is avoided.
