In the Lessons from Living Science History section, our students presented their research on the life of Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon

In the past, people used fire, candles, and oil lamps to see at night. These lamps were simple and not very bright.

In 1879, Thomas Edison made the electric light bulb better. After that, homes and streets became brighter.

Today, we use LED lamps. They use less electricity and last a long time. We also have smart lamps. We can control them with our phones.

In the future, lamps will save more energy and help protect our planet.

Our students gained both a historical perspective and imagined the future by examining the evolution of the broom, an indispensable part of our daily lives, over time. Here is a summary of our work:

📜 Past: Simplicity from Nature

The broom's journey began with the combination of materials found in nature.

First Steps: For a long time, people cleaned floors by tying together twigs, horsehair, or corn cob fibers.

Lazy Process: This method was both very tiring and only moved the dust instead of sucking it up. Cleaning was entirely based on muscle power.

🏠 Present: Technology at Our Doorstep

With the Industrial Revolution and the discovery of electricity, the broom underwent a technological revolution.

Electric Vacuum Cleaners: Dust-trapping bags, high suction power, and filtration systems (HEPA) entered our lives.

Smart Assistants: Today, we have robot vacuum cleaners in our homes that roam around, map, and return to their stations while we enjoy our tea. Cleaning is no longer a "burden."

🚀 The Future: Dreams Without Limits

Our students unleashed their creativity while imagining the vacuum cleaners of the future. Here are some of their ideas:

Molecular Cleaners: Systems that not only suck up dust but also convert it into energy or break it down into its molecules and eliminate it.

Invisible Shields: Ionized cleaning zones suspended in the air that prevent dust from accumulating on the floor.

Flying Drone Vacuum Cleaners: Smart sensor devices that clean not only floors but also curtains, chandeliers, and walls by flying.

Past

Scales in the past looked like a balance scale.
They were used to measure the weight of foods, especially.

Present

Scales today are much more modern than those in the past.
They have digital displays with numbers.
They are made of plastic and metal.

Future

I believe that future scales will talk and dance.
I also think they will be very intelligent.

It all started with Thomas Edison's invention of the Phonograph. Sound waves were engraved onto a foil-covered cylinder using a needle. The sound quality was low and the cylinders were fragile, but for the first time, "sound" became something that could be captured.

The Birth of Flat Discs: The Gramophone (1887)

Emile Berliner developed the Gramophone, which used flat discs (records) instead of cylinders. This invention allowed for the mass production and easier storage of music. Gramophones held a central place in homes for many years.

With Philips' invention of the Cassette, music became portable. However, the real revolution came in 1979 when Sony released the Walkman. People could finally listen to their own choice of music while walking down the street.

In 1982, sound became digital with the Compact Disc (CD) technology. Offering hiss-free, crystal-clear sound, CDs quickly replaced cassettes.

As the internet became widespread, music stopped being a physical object. MP3 players, and especially the iPod, gathered thousands of songs into one tiny device. Digital playlists replaced heavy CD cases.

Today, we no longer "play" music; we "access" it. Thanks to smartphones and online music platforms, all the world's music is at our fingertips. Cloud technology has transformed the music player from a physical device into software.

They drew and found images, different models and uses for the freezer of today.

They enjoyed drawing a freezer as a model of the future the most. I was amazed by the variety of explanations, details and accuracy of the drawings.
