What differences have you seen between the Spanish language and your native language? What did you find interesting and exciting about the Costa Rican culture?

There are many similarities as well as differences between English and Spanish. One difference between the two is the pronunciation. Some letter combinations like "ll" and "rr" are pronounced differently. Another difference is the sentence and question structures for both languages. In Spanish, the adjective typically come after the noun.

I found Costa Rican culture incredibly interesting! I would go over every fact about the culture that I learned, but unfortunately there isn't enough room. The first thing I learned about Costa Rica, was that hugs aren't very common. Instead of hugs, people usually shake hands there. I also learned that the school year in Costa Rica lasts from February to December, with a break between the two months and a few weeks off in July. In Costa Rican houses, one of the most important rooms is the dining room. Families can eat, watch the news, chat, and spend quality time together. Costa Rica doesn't have an army! They only have a law enforcement there. Costa Rican culture strongly believes in peace with each other and other nations. Three of the main crops grown in Costa Rica are coffee, sugar, and bananas. The malls in Costa Rica are very, very nice! They include high end shops, movie theaters with VIP sections, and food courts. The rainforests of Costa Rica are home to two-thirds of the world’s biodiversity. I know I just threw in a few random facts in there, but I wanted to include the things I found the most interesting from each unit!

I also hope to be able to form sentences off the top of my head without error or hesitation, which is my current trouble. I also want to be able to conjugate my Spanish verbs clearly and correctly so I won't mess an entire sentence up!

We have learned elements of a language in a different teaching/learning style than you may be used to. Talk about your experience with learning Spanish in an online class. What did you like about the course? What did you not like and/or what could be improved?

Learning Spanish in an online class has been quite difficult. It keeps me incredibly busy after school with lots of assignments. The course, in the beginning, was also very confusing since I'm not very tech-savvy either. Eventually though, I got the hang of checking the course everyday and getting slightly ahead. An improvement that I believe can be made to the course are maybe adding more student interactions. I think that we could help each other improve in the class, not by cheating, but by simply just talking abut or practicing the language with a partner. Another improvement that can be made could possibly be adding practices for forming Spanish sentences. I think that was the most difficult part of the Spanish language for me. Even though the course was very time consuming, I am thankful that I have been able to get ahead with a high school credit.

The things that I did to help myself learn Spanish were taking lots of notes, taking my time on assignments and quizzes, and trying my best. Even though I am not a big fan of taking lots of notes, I do believe they help a lot with my learning process. When taking quizzes, I took my time and read the questions over and over. I also listened to the audio clips as much as possible.

I think that there are many things to improve my learning of Spanish. I can take even more notes on how to form sentences and conjugate lots of verbs, and contact my teacher more often for help. I had the most trouble with sentences and verb conjugation. I also believe that more teacher interactions would have helped me gain a higher grade in my class.

I'm not one to ask for much help from my teachers, but every once in a while I would. I would usually just ask for help on forming sentences or how to do an assignment, but nothing much that needed a detailed answer. My teacher was very helpful when I did ask for help, so that affected my learning with a great impact. After a while of not asking for advice and help, my teacher would shoot me a positive message, which asked how everything was going in the course. Honestly, my teacher is very kind and does his job very well, so I don't think there is much else he can do to improve him-
self on teaching.
