Why does Clarisse intrigue Montag? What does she notice that is different about Montag from the other Firemen? What do you think about their relationship?

1. Montag is intrigued by Clarise the minute he turns the corner and sees her standing there, on the sidewalk. He is overcome by her graceful and powerful demeanor.
2. Clarise knows that Montag is a fireman, but she doesn't feel uncomfortable around him. She says that he's different because he actually cares about the things she has to say. He takes the time to listen to her.
3. Their relationship is very awkward. Clarise is a free spirit, she's outgoing and energetic. On the other hand, Montag is very stern and "sticks to the status quo." When Clarise starts mentioning how theres dew on the grass in the morning, he starts to get irritated, mostly with himself for not paying attention to these type of simple things. He starts to change a little, he stops being stern and stops "sticking to the status quo." He starts to think about things. Clarise will teach him how to be carefree.

  • Montag is intrigued by Clarisse due to her way of actions. She isn't like other people he has met before, and the way she acts and how she speaks surprises her. Especially the things she talks about. Additionally, her behavior, and attitude.
  • What Clarisse notices different about Montag is that, unlike other firefighters, he listens to her. He takes time to talk with her and understand what she says and sometimes does the thing she does.
  • I feel that their relationship will grow into something like a father-daughter connection. Right now is just the start of everything, and they will gradually strengthen their relationship with each other.

Montag is intrigued by Clarisse’s curious, pure, and straightforward personality. He also finds that she has a certain allure, and he even sees a little bit of himself in her. She makes him realize certain things that he would have never considered before, such as when she stated that there is a man in the moon, and he realizes he has not looked at it in a long time (Bradbury 21). Another example of this is when she asks him if he is happy, and he realizes that he is not happy with his life (21-23). 

    2. Clarisse notices that Montag actually takes the time to listen to and converse with her. Unlike all the other firemen she has talked to her, he did not brush her off or threaten her, and he even showed active interest in her statements. She mentions that when she mentioned the moon, he also looked up at the moon (36).

    3. I think they have a very special and unique relationship. It is similar to a father-daughter relationship; even Montag stated that Clarisse makes him feel “like a father,” (41). But it is also a little different than a typical father-daughter relationship, because when they talk to each other, it seems like they use it as an escape from the rest of the world. Clarisse talks with her family, but she did not have any friends or people to converse with outside her family until she met Montag. One she has nice personality and is always happy. She is a young woman who has unique perspective of life. Clarisse also reads book which are banned, which shows she is kind of a rebel.
    2.  Clarisse is aware that Montag is a fireman but isn't scared of him. She likes that Montag listens to her and cares about her.
    3. There relationship seems a bit peculiar. First off he is a married man and she is also seventeen. Clarisse and Montag are total opposites, kind of like opposites attract.   • From the moment he met her, Montag is intrigued by Clarisse’s demeanor and personality. She seems to be aware of her surroundings and consistently happy. By talking to her, Montag begins to see life with a new perspective. 
  • Clarisse notices that, unlike the other firefighters she had encountered, Montag actually listens to what she is saying and engages in a conversation. The things that she says make a real impact on him, and helps him to perceive things differently. 
  • I think that Montag and Clarisse’s relationship is just beginning, and will continue to deepen until they depend on each other. Clarisse will open Montag’s eyes to the world, and through her influence, he will realize what is wrong with their community.

He is surprised by the way that she is able to make him question himself and the world that they live in.
    2. Clarisse notices that unlike the other Firemen, Montag actually takes the time to talk with her and truly listens to what she says, paying attention to the things that she points out to him (such as the "man in the moon").
    3. I think their relationship is somewhat of a father-daughter connection, as Montag sees a lot of himself in her and feels a fatherly affection towards her.     3. I think Montag and Clarisse have a very typical relationship.
