1) I think we should bring a hand compass because we need to know what direction to go. It would be very helpful to know which way is north, south, east and west.

2) I want to bring 150 yards of cloth to be oiled and sewn into tents and sheets because we need shelter and protection.

3) 30 steels for striking to make fire would be very helpful considering we need a fire to cook and stay warm.

4) I suggest we bring coats because it will get extremely cold outside.

5) Shoes would protect our feet and keep them warm.

6) Twelve dozen pocket mirrors because that seems like a nice gift for the Indians. We want to get along with them.

7) We should bring knives for protection and hunting.

8) Drugs for blistering, salivation and increased kidney output would help the sick.

9) The Nautical Almanac and Astronomical Ephemeris would help us with direction and keep me entertained.

10) 50 dozen Dr. Rush’s patented "Rush’s pills" would come in handy when/if the men are hit with illness.

Corps of Discovery Decision?

I am choosing William Clark to accompany me on this long journey. Clark served in the U.S. Army as a commanding officer. He has experience, which is exactly what I need. What if we run into some not-so nice Native Americans that want to fight or something of the sorts? It’s always a good thing to have someone with good influence on your side.
William Clark would be helpful in the manner of which he is smart and straightforward. He has a stable personality, and I hope he can help keep everyone in line. Clark is a man, so having him with me would be helpful considering most people wouldn’t take a lone female traveler all that serious. Having him as a partner would be a good thing. He seems to be a clear minded writer. That means he will be there to help us through the tough times and record all of our discoveries along the way.

Plant and Animal Life?

Plant

The idaho fescue is a plant that has compound leaves with leathery, hollylike leaflets ending in dense branched clusters of small yellow flowers. This plant can grow to be seven feet tall! The idaho fescue would help benefit the lives of the Americans. They are also known as ground potatoes, which would make them a good food source to keep in mind. The root could be boiled, smashed, or dried and pounded into a meal.
Animal

The plains gray wolf was discovered on the expedition of Lewis and Clark. This wolf is about 4 ½ to 6 ½ feet long, from snout to tail, and it weighs about 60-110 pounds. It’s fur is most likely a coat of gray, black or buff with red-ish coloring. The plains gray wolf is a carnivore, and for the most part resembles a large scary dog.

I imagine that the plains gray wolf made quite the impression on the corps. It’s large, beautiful, and I imagine it would have been very breathtaking. The wolf could benefit the lives of the American people by providing fur to trade. The plains gray wolf’s fur would also keep them warm. Americans could use it’s meat to eat or also trade.

The Nez Perce Indians considered killing strangers when they staggered out of the mountains. Though, they ended up helping the expedition members by providing aid when survival was critical. Clark said that the Nez Perce people showed a much greater act of hospitality from any nation or tribe since they passed the rocky mountains. They gave them horses to be used for food on their return trip. The Nez Perce people had a friendly relationship with the corps.
