National Council Of Women Is Founded

In 1893, Canada’s National Council of Women was founded by Lady Aberdeen, the wife of the Governor General. The council tried to improve the status of woman through education, working conditions, the right to vote and more.

This event is significant to Canada’s history because it promotes how Canada is a progressive country and adds to the image of Canada being inclusive and a country for everyone.

The Death Of Sir John A Macdonald

Sir John A. Macdonald the first prime minister of Canada died at the age of 76 after his second stroke in June of 1891.

This is significant because he was the first Prime Minister of canada paving the path for the next prime ministers and his death allowed for new people to promote the country in better ways.

Alberta & Saskatchewan Become Provinces

Due to the settlers who were brought in to settle in the Prairies, the Prairies were growing. Through farming, forestry, and mining, there was rapid economic growth. This lead to the creation of the provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta in 1905.

This event matters for Canada because through this, Canada became a bigger and better country. This helped Canada grow and continue to stretch from coast to coast.

First Stanley Cup is awarded

The Stanley Cup was first awarded in 1893 to the Montreal Hockey Club. The Stanley Cup came under the control of the National Hockey League, and has been the NHL championship prize since 1947.
Hockey has been incredibly important to Canada for its entire history and brings so many Canadians pride about living here. It gave people something to look forward to and win.

First Peoples Participate In The First World War

Around one-third of First Nations men volunteered to be soldiers in the First World War.

This was significant to Canada because more than 300 of the First Nations men were killed and given medals for valour. When they returned home they were not given the same veteran benefits to the white soldiers. Later on the First Nations veterans protested that the government should give equal benefits for everyone.

Thankfully 42 years Canada apologized for the racism against the Japanese in the second world war.

The Sun Dance is Banned -1895

The sun dance was a traditional Indigenous dance. Missionaries and Indian agents had been trying to ban it for decades until it was banned outright by the Government of Canada in 1895. If convicted, dancers couod face up to 6 months in prison. The ban was finally lifted in 1951.

This event is significant because it shows just how poorly the indigenous people were treated. They'd go to jail just for dancing, and it took them 76 years just to lift this ban.

Through an agreement between great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The plan aimed to rapidly increase the number of trained airmen for the commonwealth air forces, with Canada ser ING as the primary training base due to its vast airspace, favorable conditions, and distance from the main fighting.
