Computer Applications Technology is the study of the integrated components of a computer system (hardware and software) and the practical techniques for their efficient use and application to solve everyday problems. The solutions to problems are designed, managed and processed via end-user applications and communicated using appropriate information and communication technologies.(ICTs). ICTs are the combination of networks, hardware and software as well as the means of communication, collaboration and engagement that enable the processing, management and exchange of data, information and knowledge.
ICT integration in Education - Why it should be integrated in schools.

ICT integration in education is not just about technology but about teaching. It is the teachers innovativeness that makes the lesson delivery meaningful. The purpose of integrating ICT’s in classrooms is to improve the quality of learning and teaching and it is to equip learners and teachers with 21st century skills.
ICT is an important instrument that can transfer the present isolated, teacher-centred and book-centred learning environment into a student-centred environment. It can change the traditional concept of learning process and the components of ICT should be integrated in the education program in such a way that teaching should be enabled to face the new demands and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of education in South Africa at all levels in both formal and non-formal settings. ICT’s not only enhances the learning experiences of learners but also helps them develop the skills essential to participate effectively in the world of affairs.

One of the goals for integrating ICT’s in education is to enhance teaching and learning practices thereby improving the quality of education. However, in most developing countries like South Africa, the potential of ICT’s to support pedagogy is yet to be fully realised. To date, most of the attention, both on policy and research has been on how the lack of infrastructure and access to technology affect the use of ICT’s. However, it has also shown that even in cases where the infrastructure is available, few educators are effectively integrating ICT’s in curriculum delivery. It can be said that there are non-technical factors that affect the adoption of ICT’s for curriculum delivery. With the integration of ICT’s in schools, teachers play the biggest role in order to make the integration of ICT’s successful.
