Our students in the VET system are older than those referred to in the RespAct project and at the moment mostly came as refugees from Ukraine. So their interests differ from younger students. Refering to the latest political, economical and educational developments in Ukraine, there is a huge interest in any information concerning the labour market, the dual system, democratic values, the VET system in general, the institutions of the European Union etc. In general: There is a wish to discover the free and democratic Europe., which is more relevant that the direct neighbourhood....

I think this project is very complete. It's very nice. And yes, I think it would be easy to adapt it in my school. Usually, portuguese people is very concerned in the well-being of migrants and refugees, (we have a lot of people as migrants all over the world, too)! When we receive people in need, whenever the needs, there is always someone or some organization that comes for help them, so, this type of community development projects are very well succeed. Even in schools we have matters that work on the well being, personal development or even social problems, so, we improve different projects, some of them related, in some ways, to thisone presented here.

A first step or a pilot project is what we tried out this year with my native pupils in our senior high school in Greece. I trained them in Suggestopedia, an innovative methodology for accelerated experiential language learning (which is also appropriate for refugees because it draws from psychotherapy and relies on art-therapy). They peer-taught Greek to the newly arrived refugee pupils from Afghanistan using English. We intend to use the same resources to teach Greek (perhaps also English and German) to the families of our refugee pupils in cooperation with the local council.
Another idea for a community project is to set up a Cinema Club at the Town Hall and play films from actoss our cultures which we will discuss and perhaps create more art work as a follow up.
Last, we could ask the local authorities to provide space for community gardening and farming where our pupils and their families will be involved.

I designed a Personal, Social and Community Development Plan in order to respond to problems of school integration and success. With a set of activities to improve socio-emotional skills, in the development of a climate of well-being and happiness.

In the institution where I work, 2 social projects are carried out for refugees. In this way, in addition to monthly financial aid to students, social sports, excursions and cultural activities are also provided frequently.

The sports project, along with the video one seem aesily adaptable for my school and I would propose it. I think of a collaboratively written story narrating the neighbourhood's history, as an idea of our own.

Yes, I think design and implement a community development project it would be a good method in my school. I also think it will be more eficient, because particular actions do nt reach the whole situation of refugees and migrants. We could try to mobilize the Social Network in my city, that is runed by municipality; this structure have all entities in the city represented.

In the second course we do a project of refugees that we could adapt it well. It's a project where each group study the situation of refugees in different countries and also they analyse how all we have migrants families. Later we do a special artistic poster.

I’m quite excited with the ideas shared by Jana and by peers here in this Padlet. I’m very willing to implement them. Most of the ideas shared here can be very useful in my context, not only for migrants, but also for local students who, in my opinion, are not stimulated to participate in their community and still don’t feel they are an important part of it.

Projects related to self-respect development and local valorization would be a nice starting point. I’ve taken down my notes and am already trying to gather ideas to make them come true. Starting point: creating a network of teachers willing to participate!

We organisd an "open school day" "Mayday" for families from our school. Students and their family members could come into the school. The classes had tents and tables where they had different activities for eachother. There were sports, stage performances, planting, arts and crafts, music. Refugee children also came, they attended the programmes with their family members. It was a great way to talk and get to know each other in a relaxed, not "schoollike" environment.

The ideas in the video are not applicable to my reality, as the immigrant population in scarce and we don't have any refugees just yet.
Nevertheless, the ideas are very interesting and should be explored when the reality of the school changes.

Building positive relationships between students of different nationalities.
For example, each immigrant student with a student from the country .. Spending a family day at school.

In the school where I work there are social programs, and the students are helped with funds from the local community.

My idea is sports events that facilitate cohesion and harmony for refugee students.it is very useful to hold art events and excursions.It is also very useful for teachers and the school administration to make family visits to the homes of refugee students and to see the troubles on the spot.This Dec strengthens the bond between the family and the school.

Following these ideas shared by Jana, I can share with the group an experience that, in some way, shares the same principles that underlie this project (RespAct) and that can serve as inspiration for networking with the community and with entities in that community.
The experience I share with you started with an association of parents and guardians of an elementary school that launched the challenge to sponsor an Iberian wolf (a protected species in Portugal and Spain) and involved the whole community. The electoral campaign (to choose which wolf to sponsor) was made by the students (including migrant and refugee children, which was important to integrate) and traveled throughout the community. Election campaigning on the street, in cafes, at the parish council, the police, other schools, etc.
On election day the parish council placed ballot boxes so that elections could be held and several members of the community (police, children from other schools, etc...), students, parents, and the mayor voted and participated in this project. It was very rich and they felt they were part of something very important.
