It is a semi-arid continental monsoon climate. It is dryer in non monsoon seasons with plenty of sunshine. This is most likely how the climate was during the Shang Dynasty.

In these conditions it may be harder for the civilization to build permanent homes that are monsoon proof and must be built at higher elevation. The flooding during monsoon season helps the civilization in the sense that it provides lots of fertile farm land that can have rice grown on, providing a very stable food.

Monsoon-a seasonal prevailing wind in the region of South and Southeast Asia, blowing from the southwest between May and September and bringing rain (the wet monsoon ), or from the northeast between October and April (the dry monsoon ).

These resources become more useful when technology advances and they start creating tools. Also they have amazing farm lands due to its location near the Yellow River. This created fertile farm lands, creating a stable food source, and this created free time for the civilization to expand and invent new tools, ideas, and new ways of life.

The Shang Dynasty was a monarchy in which the king was both lawmaker and judge so no-one dared to argue with him. He ruled by force, and anyone who transgressed the king's laws would be killed immediately by his soldiers. The decision about who should be king was originally taken by force, whichever clan had the biggest army would rule the civilisation until a clan with a better army came along. In the Shang Dynasty's case, this lasted 550 years. The king would rule the 200 to 300 clans that resided in their territory.
