Panama canal

It connects USA to Europe and Asia,18 600 ships pass through it every year . Boat transport is an ancient form of transport . First canal was the Egypt's Suez Canal , connecting two sea , Mediterranean and Red Sea. In 19 th century m transport from New York to California started and the French wanted to build the canal , this was in 1881 . There were too many casualties and the work had to stop . In 1904 , Chief engineer Stevens noticed the problem of the French and decided to build an artificial lake.It is like a water reservoir , 85 feet above the sea , ...how does it work? Panama cargo boat is surrounded by two tugboats that lead the boat into the canal and there it is locked . The ship is protected from scratching by rubber fenders that are hanging down from the walls of the canal. This transport is a gradual process , to allow the water to flow , it takes 11 hours. In 2000 additional locks were built and now there are 4 locks . The ships can carry around 5000 containers but the technology is constantly evolving and today this number is too small , ships now carry 13000 containers .There are some problems , fighting erosion and landslide , the cost is estimated to 350 million dollars every year to run this magnificent construction.
