Before that 189 people were killed in a crash that took off from Addis Ababa Indonesia. 

The US grounded the planes as well. About 8600 flights were canceled do to the grounding of the planes.

Alot of familys were affected by this. Some familys lost loved ones in the crash. Then the other familys that had places to go and couldn't because their flights were canceled.
