I was chosen as a spotlight athlete by the American Diabetes Association to represent athletes with type 1 diabetes. Before being chosen for this honor, I tried to hide the fact that I had this disease. That tournament was when I decided to quit being angry and embrace it by bringing awareness to others.

I got to take a picture with the King. Elvis is my favorite singer, and it was absolutely mind-blowing to get to walk in his home and pay my respects at his grave. This trip to Memphis was life-altering, as I got to stay in The Guest House at Graceland, look at Elvis' cars, jumpsuits, GRAMMYS, and even eat at the Arcade Restaurant, which was where he ate every time he came back to his hometown. I could sit and stare at the ocean for hours as it sprays a gentle mist, just admiring the waves curling against the rocks.  The beauty that was surrounds me in this photo is one that I will never forget.  Last year I went to Hawaii with my family where we shared many amazing memories.  This is one of my favorite photos because it reminds me of the many fun adventures I had with my family in Hawaii.

We were at San Antonio on a river boat sightseeing ride. My dad took this picture, but when he was taking it there was no light like that on camera and off, the sun wasn't even out it was cloudy. When we saw the picture we were like "wow this is so pretty I wonder how that happened." Then after this when we were leaving we got into a really bad car crash that almost made 3 of the 5 members in my family die. The weird thing was, the 2 people who had the least injuries were my mom and I. This is important to me because just a little bit before such a big disaster, was a time that was so beautiful and we had it captured here. In the picture, we are getting ready to get a game started. Miracle league is a program developed for youth and adults with mental and physical disabilities. This was opening day for the 3rd season. This is one of the important moments that occurred that day. You may not be able to tell from this photo what this awesome guy's disability is but with this program, it doesn't matter. It creates an opportunity for all to play regardless of the limitations. It is important to me because this program and the families involved changed my life.
