A final chance to join Girls Journeying Together this year

Girls Journeying Together is a year-long monthly group for girls aged 10–12, run through the local not-for-profit Rites For Girls, creating a safe and supportive space for girls to navigate the changes and challenges of growing up.

🌸 A supportive space to talk, connect and be themselves alongside other girls

💛 Explore topics including friendships and peer pressure, big feelings, puberty and periods, beauty standards and body image, and the social pressures of growing up

🌱 Build confidence, self-worth, resilience and belonging

📍 The Nest, Heaven Farm, Danehill
🗓️ Sunday mornings, 10am–1pm, monthly
👧 For girls aged 10–12 / Year 6 & 7

Want to see if it’s right for your daughter?

The first session is on Sunday 18 October and can be attended as a taster session, so your daughter can experience the group before deciding whether to commit to the year.

This is the final opportunity to join this year’s group. After 18 October, the group will become a closed group, with the next new groups starting in autumn 2027.

💛 Fully funded places are available through National Lottery funding for families who would benefit from financial support.

• Wednesday 28th October 2026 – 4:00pm–7:00pm

Students do not need to arrive at a specific time and can attend at any point during the allocated times on their chosen Open Day. They are very welcome to bring along their parents or carers.

Churchill College (college at Cambridge University) are offering a free webinar entitled: Making A Level Choices (27th October 2026, 4.30 – 5.30pm).

The webinar is aimed at prospective applicants to Cambridge in Years 11 – 13 only but teachers, parents and supporters are welcome to join as well. Whether you are thinking about Cambridge University or not, you may find it helpful to take the tips shared and apply it to your decision-making for A-level choices.

They encourage live attendance on the Zoom webinar, as they do not record the sessions and are not able to send out materials afterwards.

For many of our students, this was their first experience of a Higher Education event, giving them the chance to explore what life after school could look like and discover the wide range of options available to them.

Students were able to meet representatives from universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers, ask questions and find out more about different courses, careers and routes into Higher Education. It was a great opportunity for them to start thinking about their future and, perhaps most importantly, to realise just how many possibilities are out there!

The students found the visit really useful and enjoyed having the chance to talk directly to providers and explore opportunities they may not have considered before.

The visit supports our commitment to the Gatsby Benchmarks for Good Career Guidance, particularly Benchmark 2 (Career and Labour Market Information), Benchmark 4 (Linking Curriculum Learning to Careers), Benchmark 5 (Encounters with Employers and Employees) and Benchmark 7 (Encounters with Further and Higher Education).

We hope this was the first of many exciting steps for our Year 11s as they begin to raise their aspirations, explore their options and plan their next steps. 

Remember to keep an eye on the Careers Padlet for events and links to colleges/apprenticeships. We also have Unifrog that can help with post-16 options. All students from Year 7 upwards have their own Unifrog account, login using school email address and the password set - if passwords are forgotten, use the 'reset password' link.

Has your child explored the Unifrog 101 Course yet? This interactive course is a great introduction to careers and future planning, helping students learn more about themselves, their interests, skills, and the wide range of opportunities available to them. Through engaging activities, students can explore different careers, complete interest quizzes, identify their strengths, and start thinking about how their choices in school can connect to their future goals. 

We encourage all students to spend some time working through the Unifrog 101 activities at home. Parents and carers can support by talking to their child about the careers that interest them, discussing their strengths, and encouraging them to explore the wide range of pathways available after school. Every activity completed helps students build confidence, increase career awareness, and make more informed decisions about their future.

To get started, simply log in to your Unifrog account and look for the Unifrog 101 Course. A small investment of time now could help open the door to exciting opportunities in the future!

Ms Wickens

With seven teams competing in the A Team tournament and four teams in the B Team tournament, we were proud to field two teams and give a large number of students the opportunity to represent the school.

Our A Team made a positive start to the competition with an impressive victory over Uplands. They then faced a strong Heathfield side and, despite some outstanding defensive play from Rosa and Beth, were unable to secure the win. As the tournament progressed, the girls continued to grow in confidence and performance. Competing in their first Year 7 tournament, they responded well to feedback, developing their teamwork and decision-making with every game. The team went on to record further victories, a draw and another narrow defeat, ultimately finishing in a very respectable fourth place.

The B Team enjoyed an outstanding tournament, winning every match they played to remain unbeaten throughout the afternoon. Their success was built on solid defensive performances across the court, while excellent linking play helped move the ball effectively through the thirds. GA Suraya was particularly influential, producing some excellent shooting and movement to put the team in strong positions within the shooting circle and help convert opportunities into goals.

Overall, both teams should be incredibly proud of their performances. Throughout the tournament they displayed exceptional sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience, supporting one another and representing the school with great pride. Their positive attitude and willingness to learn ensured a successful and enjoyable afternoon of netball for all involved.

Thank you for your support this week, we have had an excellent week with Success in Year 11 evening, the Year 10 Photography trip, Year 11 Careers trip and a huge range of fixtures! It has been particularly encouraging to see so many Year 7s getting involved in afterschool fixtures and clubs.  

We know students are already looking forward to next week with the Branching Out trips and Spanish trip taking place.
