All students have been issued with Conduct Cards today to add their intervention attendance, behaviour, and ambitious learner scores.

Eligibility to attend the trip will be shared with students closer to the trip date and tickets will be available via Parent Pay.

Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing information with pupils and families about an important development to the way learning takes place beyond the classroom. Following a review of our approach to homework, we have updated our strategy and will now refer to all homework as Independent Learning. This change reflects our belief that learning outside the classroom should not be seen as a disconnected task, but as an integral part of a pupil's education.

Our Independent Learning programme is rooted in educational research and has been designed to have a greater impact on pupil progress. The purpose of Independent Learning is to support pupils to retain knowledge more effectively, practise and apply the skills learned in lessons and develop the independence, organisation, resilience and study habits that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.

Attached to this communication is our new Independent Learning Guide for Parents & Pupils, which explains the rationale, expectations and support available. We encourage all parents and carers to read this guide with their child.

Over the coming weeks, pupils will receive further information through tutor time and assemblies to help them understand the importance of Independent Learning and how to be successful.

Next week, all pupils will receive an Independent Learning Folder and will have the opportunity during tutor time to create a personalised Independent Learning timetable. This will help pupils to plan when they will complete their work, taking into account other commitments such as clubs, sports, family activities and planned breaks. We would welcome your support in discussing this timetable with your child and reinforcing the importance of establishing a regular Independent Learning routine.

Key Dates

• Monday 21st September: The first Independent Learning tasks will be set on ClassCharts.

• Every Monday thereafter: All Independent Learning will be set through ClassCharts.

• Pupils will have one week to complete each task.

• Monday 28th September: Rewards and sanctions linked to Independent Learning will come into effect.

We believe this revised approach will help pupils develop the knowledge, habits and independence needed to achieve success, and we look forward to working in partnership with families to support pupils in establishing strong Independent Learning routines.

Students will receive personalised timetables a week before they begin.

Please find attached the timetable for the forthcoming Year 11 October Mock Examination Series. The timetable shows all subjects that will be sitting examinations during this mock period.

Please note that Art and Photography students will complete a full-day examination as part of their mock assessments. Further details regarding the arrangements and timings for these examinations will be communicated separately in due course.

Each student will receive a personalised examination timetable, including their allocated seat numbers, during the week before the mock examinations begin. We deliberately issue these closer to the start of the examination series to reduce the likelihood of them being misplaced.

We would like to stress the importance of full attendance throughout the mock examination period. These examinations play a vital role in helping students:

• Identify gaps in their knowledge and understanding.

• Gain valuable experience of formal examination conditions.

• Develop effective revision strategies ahead of their GCSE examinations.

• Build confidence and resilience in preparation for the summer examination series.

• Familiarise themselves with examination procedures and expectations.

Mocks provide an important opportunity for students to practise the skills required for success and to receive meaningful feedback that will help shape their preparation over the coming months. We therefore ask for your support in ensuring that students attend all scheduled examinations and arrive punctually.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the mock examination timetable or arrangements, please encourage your child to speak to their tutor in the first instance. Parents and carers are also welcome to contact Mr Morris or Mrs Prince, who will be happy to assist.

The staff and I could not be prouder of our young people. Our Year 7 pupils, who are new to the academy, are going from strength to strength as they grow in confidence, settle into their new surroundings and learn their way around the site. A huge well done also to those who supported us at last week's Year 5/6 Open Evening. What a wonderful group of young people we have here at Brunts.

I have received so many kind messages from families who took the time to tell us what a brilliant experience they had during the evening. The feedback about our Year 7 pupils was particularly heartening, with many commenting on how welcoming, confident and helpful they were throughout the event. I have huge ambitions for this year group and look forward to seeing them enjoy many more positive experiences during their time with us.

It has also been fantastic to see our Key Stage 4 and Sixth Form students embracing the challenges of their exam studies and preparing for the upcoming mock examination window. We have regularly had well over 100 pupils staying after school to attend intervention sessions and strengthen their preparation for examinations. If you have a child in Year 11, I would encourage you to speak with them about their revision timetable and the interventions they are accessing. Details of the full programme can be found in the Year 11 section of this Padlet.

I have also been delighted by how well our pupils have embraced our Ambitious Learner Kit expectations. Ensuring pupils have the equipment they need to be independent and successful in lessons has had an incredibly positive impact on learning and the start of the school day. Only a small number of pupils have needed to access the Ambitious Learner Station each morning to obtain equipment. I anticipated this figure being much higher, so I would like to thank all parents and carers for your support in ensuring your child arrives at school fully equipped and ready to learn.

The overall standard of behaviour and ambition in lessons has moved up another gear already this year. The number of conduct points issued during the school day has halved compared with this point last year, while reward points are at the highest levels we have ever seen. An incredible 98.9% of all points issued through Class Charts are positive, which is a fantastic reflection of the culture our pupils and staff are building together every day.

A huge well done to all of our pupils for such a fantastic start to the term. Please continue to work hard, be ambitious and make the most of every opportunity available to you.

I am organising a visit to Barcelona in Spain which will take place in October 2027 during term time for students who are currently in Year 8.  We hope to give pupils a flavour of what life is like in Spain, visit local attractions and give the students plenty of opportunities to speak as much Spanish as possible. 

The trip will be officially launched in a few weeks’ time, and I wanted to give you advanced notice so that you can discuss it with your child, should they be interested in going on the trip. The trip details are:

• The dates of the visit: October 2027. Please note this will be in term time.

• Price approximately £820

• 4 day trip to Barcelona, flying from a local airport.

• Half board accommodation in a hotel

• Visit to the Nou Camp football stadium, the Sagrada Familia church, a cable car ride, local markets and Port Aventura theme park.

  
  

When the trip launch letter is given out in a few weeks, an initial deposit of £240 will be required to secure your child’s place on the trip, together with the signed reply slip. There are 40 places available on a first come first served basis. The launch letter will detail where and when to hand in your signed reply slip, as well as how to pay the deposit.
