Ashleigh shared her inspiring journey — from struggling academically at the start of Year 11 to passing all her GCSEs, winning The Young Apprentice and building a successful career supporting and championing young people. She now works as an Education Specialist at Civica.

Our students threw themselves into Ashleigh’s interactive assembly, asking thoughtful questions and engaging brilliantly throughout.

We had fully intended to write to you on Friday evening, but the sheer energy of our annual Culture Day festivities, paired with a very thorough post-event cleanup operation, carried our staff well into the night! It was worth every single extra minute.

Friday was a spectacular showcase of what makes Bingley Grammar School such a special place to learn and grow. The event beautifully highlighted our core school values: Respect, Commitment, and Collaboration.

• Commitment: Over 280 students demonstrated immense dedication, working hard to design, build, and host more than 60 unique stalls.

• Collaboration: Our two halls came alive as over 1,200 students visited the stalls throughout the day. They worked together, learned from one another, sampled a brilliant array of home-baked goods, and collaborated on some lighthearted fun, which included enthusiastically soaking Mr Mott and Mr Ali with wet sponges!

• Respect: At the heart of the day was a deep sense of mutual respect. Students created spaces to share the aspects of their identity, global awareness, and personal heritage that matter most to them.

The variety of interests and cultures on display was breathtaking. Stalls explored global heritages like Bangladesh and Pakistan, advanced global and social empathy through Discrimination around the world, Send my Friend to School, and Awareness of Unicef, and championed vital causes like Cancer Research, the Alzheimer's Society, and Autism and Tourette's Awareness. Students also proudly shared their passions, ranging from Girls Football and Music to Sea Life Protection, the RSPCA, Model Railways, and The British Army. There are many more we could mention. 

By choosing to share what represents them, our students proved to be the ultimate ambassadors for our community. They showed that we are a school where we don't just coexist; we actively learn from and support one another.

This landmark event would not have been possible without the tireless planning of Ms Mdlongwa and her Race Chartermark group, as well as the phenomenal support of Miss Shah, Mrs Bhatti, and Mrs Bairstow. 

Finally, a massive thank you to all the parents and families who helped their children prepare, bake, and create ahead of Friday. It was an excellent community achievement and one that was so impactful.

After arriving late and unfortunately not having the opportunity to warm up, the girls found themselves 1–0 down pretty quickly. To make things even more challenging, we were told that all of the Ryburn players play together outside of school for Ryburn United!

Despite this, our girls quickly settled into the game, showed incredible resilience and determination, and played some fantastic football. The game finished 5–5, with goals from Florence and Isla.

After a tense penalty shootout, our girls came away with the victory! So onto the next round of the County Cup! 

It was impossible to choose a Player of the Match as they all gave everything and showed amazing determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the game. 

But a special shout out to Emily, who had never played football before but put in an absolutely amazing performance! Also Charlotte for a brilliant penalty save, amongst many other fantastic saves during the game!

Representatives from Cambridge University  came in to talk to Chemistry and Biology students in Year 12 about the need to broaden students’ horizons beyond Medicine as a pathway after science A-Levels.
