We have recently seen an increase in the number of students who are arriving at school wearing 'starface hydro-stars'. These are star shaped spot stickers which are designed to absorb fluid and reduce inflammation. We have no issue with students using hydro stars or any other brand of spot sticker if needed as part of a skin care regime, but politely request that if students do so, they use only the clear stickers. As is often the case, wearing the bright coloured stickers has become somewhat of a fashion choice, with some students admitting to wearing them purely for this reason. Should students arrive in school wearing coloured stars, they will be expected to remove them.

Chailey School Awarded Top Tesco Stronger Starts Grant

We are delighted to share the fantastic news that Chailey School has been awarded £1,500 through the Tesco Stronger Starts programme, the highest grant available.

The award was made following a public vote in local Tesco stores, where customers chose projects they felt would have the greatest impact on their communities. Voting took place between 28 April and 31 July 2026, with millions of votes cast across the UK.

As in the past two years, the funding will be used to enhance our careers programme and provide students with valuable opportunities to explore future education and career pathways. In particular, it will help fund our Open Doors careers visits, delivered in partnership with the East Sussex Careers Hub, enabling students to visit employers, workplaces and training providers to gain first-hand insight into the world of work. The grant will also support careers guidance activities that help students make informed decisions about their post-16 options.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Tesco and Groundwork for their generous support and for providing funding opportunities that make such a positive difference to young people.

Most importantly, we would like to thank our parents, carers, staff, students and members of the wider school community who took the time to vote for our project. Your support helped us secure the maximum award available, and this funding will have a lasting impact on the opportunities we can offer our students.

All the fun of the 'Careers' Fair!

On Thursday, Chailey School welcomed 37 exhibitors to our annual Careers Fair, providing students in Years 9, 10 and 11 with an excellent opportunity to explore the wide range of pathways available after school and beyond.

Representatives from all of our local colleges were joined by employers, apprenticeship providers and training organisations, giving students the chance to ask questions, gather information and learn more about the routes available to them. From A Levels, vocational qualifications and T Levels to apprenticeships and employment opportunities, there was something to interest every student.

We were also pleased to offer a quiet session from 10.00am to 10.30am, enabling students who benefit from a calmer environment to engage with exhibitors and conversations at their own pace.

Events such as our Careers Fair play an important role in helping young people make informed decisions about their future. Speaking directly to employers and education providers helps students broaden their horizons, challenge assumptions, develop confidence and gain a better understanding of the qualifications, skills and experiences needed for different career paths. These conversations can be invaluable in helping students identify opportunities they may not have previously considered.

A huge thank you goes to all of the exhibitors who generously gave their time to support our students, and to the members of staff who helped with the planning, organisation and smooth running of the event. Their support ensured that students were able to gain the maximum benefit from this valuable experience.

We hope that students left the event feeling inspired, informed and excited about the many opportunities available to them as they begin planning their next steps.

Gail Wickens
Careers & Work-Related Learning Coordinator

Last Friday, Year 7 began their Interhouse adventure, by taking part in four different activities. First, they had to figure out which member of staff had stolen Miss Maynard's sports trophy. Fortunately, the thief was apprehended and they have learnt their lesson. Students then took part in sporting and creative events, playing bench-ball and dodge-ball or creating an elaborate marble run. At the end of the day, students created collaborative art. Throughout each event, it was heart-warming to see connections being built and strengthened between students. All tutor groups had a measure of success, but 7Glynde were the overall winners of the day, edging ahead in the competition.

Our year 11 footballers came head to head with Kings Academy this week in an end to end contest. Chailey opened with an early goal from Theo and Kings Academy equalised. In the second half, another 4 goals were scored but it was 2 goals per team with the end result finishing at 3-3. A positive first result for our year 11 boys. Well done!

Today Year 7 took part in a Touch Rugby festival which was so well attended by local schools across East Sussex. They rotated around different skill based sessions focussing on evasive running, catching, passing and then played some T1 touch rugby games. The girls attacked the day with all their energy and showed real potential in their skills and vision for the game. We will have an opportunity for all girls at Chailey to join our girls rugby club this academic year and I can't wait! A lovely experience for our newest year 7 rugby legends and a cracking day for girls rugby overall!!

Year 10 North Wealden Netball Tournament

On Wednesday 23rd September, Chailey School was proud to host the first Year 10 North Wealden Netball Tournament of the year.

Six teams attended the event, providing an afternoon of highly competitive netball and showcasing an impressive standard of play across all matches. The tournament gave players the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, teamwork and determination against strong opposition from across the area.

While the results did not fall in Chailey's favour, Mrs Maynard was extremely proud of the sportsmanship, resilience and effort shown by the Year 10 team throughout the tournament. There were some outstanding individual performances, particularly from Jess, whose excellent defending under pressure helped keep opposition attacks at bay. Chloe also worked tirelessly in the centre third, applying tight marking and slowing the progress of opposing teams with her intelligent defensive play.

The tournament winners were Heathfield, who remained unbeaten throughout the competition and scored heavily in each of their matches. However, a determined and resilient Chailey side saved one of their best performances for their final game, working hard to score three goals against the eventual champions. Special congratulations go to Phoebe, whose fabulous shooting contributed all three goals against an excellent Heathfield team.

The team should be proud of their efforts and the positive attitude they displayed throughout the afternoon. We look forward to seeing their continued progress over the season.
