The 54th anniversary of Martial Law commemoration reminds us that tyranny and dictatorship should no longer be tolerated in our generation. Filipinos nowadays should be more relevant to social change and remember the sufferings of the older generation who personally experienced the ill effects of Martial Law during the 70s to never let this dark event in our history never occur again. The sacrifices of our heroes who were imprisoned and tortured during the era of Marcos Sr. should serve as a wake-up call for everyone, whether full-blood Filipino or Filipino by heart especially with the current economical, social, and political issues that we are facing in our nation.

#NeverAgainNeverForget

#Marcos-Duterte resign

I think it’s important to stay vigilant about the power of the military and police in our communities. We can see some signs of martial law today, like increased action against protests. As a future law student, I want to protect the rights of those who are vulnerable. We need to ensure that authorities are held accountable and that everyone's rights are respected. We can also fight about false information about Martial Law to help safeguard individual freedoms and support those in need.

It's important more than ever to remember the events of Martial Law that happened in the Philippines and to honor those who have fought for human rights during a time when freedom of speech was a decision that could put you and your loved ones' lives at risk. Filipinos must realize how important it is to remember our history so that we will not repeat the same mistakes and learn to choose the right leaders and know when to hold them accountable. Martial Law should serve as a reminder to know how important our voice is and we should never allow corrupt leaders to take away our rights as human beings.

From Ferdinand Marcos Sr. to Bongbong Marcos Jr, it can be shown that there is a systematic issue with the Philippine political landscape as a whole. This resounds from the issues that resonate within our sociological and historical background as Filipinos. Martial Law was a attempt for the Marcoses to retain cronyism and attain power through coercion and control by manipulating the electoral system. This event encouraged economic decline, continuing trapo patronage politics, political suppression and the reduction of human rights which still affects the country to this day. It begs the question: Are we truly free even with the son of the dictator in power? Have we really attained a nationalistic and genuine democracy? Most of the occurring issues of the past still haunts the nation until this day, and its important for us to demand better conditions for the common Filipino.

#MarcosSingilinDutertePanagutin

#LikeFatherLikeSon

I feel that it is important for us to continue to commerate the events surronding Martial Law because of how they shaped our country and brougt many of our fellow Filipinos together. This event was a part of our history and should be remembered to understand the struggles many faced during that period and to learn from them. It also serves as a reminder for us that we as Filipinos have the right to stand up for our own freedom and to make our voices heard.
